"The Doors 40th anniversary will be marked with a 12-disc box set due this fall via Rhino. It will pair the band's first six studio albums -- all remastered with bonus tracks -- with six DVDs featuring 5.1 remixes of the studio albums and bonus material. There will also be a vinyl boxed set of the first six albums and January will see two-CD versions of the albums released individually."

I bought this, way back when:
I'm pretty happy with it, but I've also become pretty Doors-ed out since I got it, too. The new set sounds nice, but it also sounds like it could be expensive. The only selling point for me is the 5.1 mixes. I'm not sure what bonus tracks they could have that haven't already been released, and as far as remastering goes, the current releases sound fantastic already.
Probably a pass for me, unless I can find it for cheap.

Maybe the 2 disc versions will be 1 remasterd CD with bonus tracks, and 1 DVD-Audio or SACD with the 5.1 I don't think I would buy all of them, but I would definately pick up at least L.A. Woman.

The cleverly named Doors box, "Perception," arrives Nov. 21. It includes the band's original six studio albums remastered on CD, as well as a DVD with a new 5.1 DTS Surround Sound mix, rare audio and video tracks, photos and lyrics.
Highlights from the set include a previously unreleased version of "Indian Summer" from the band's self-titled 1967 debut, unissued takes of "Love Me Two Times" from the same year's "Strange Days" and the 17-minute "Celebration of the Lizard," which has been tacked onto 1968's "Waiting for the Sun."
"The Soft Parade" will include an unreleased take of "Touch Me," the previously unreleased track 'Push Push" and two live performances tapes for New York TV station WNET in 1969. The new version of 1970's "Morrison Hotel" sports eight alternate takes of "Roadhouse Blues" and a brief attempt at Chuck Berry's "Carol," while rehearsal footage of "Crawling King Snake" sees the light of day on the band's swansong, 1971's "L.A. Woman."
In conjunction with "Perception," Hyperion will on Nov. 7 release the Doors' first authorized autobiography, "The Doors by the Doors."

Nope probably not same way they pissed all over the new bjork dvd 5.1 set. God damn DTS instead of actual quality 5.1 like doors 2 of hers are already out in dvd-audio. Way to take 2 steps backwards to milk more god damn money out of people.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
I'm definitely interested, as I do not think any of the Doors album available are the best "remastered" that they could be. I compare a remastered song by The Doors next to a remastered "any song" from the 60's, and the "any song" is louder and clearer than any "Doors" song.
Doors songs pale by comparison on my iPod and such, and that really is a shame. I'm hoping this new set will blow away the previous sets. They deserve the best quality, and so do we. So do we.

While looking over the contents of the press release, I'm still noticing gaps of unreleased material that still looks as though it will not be released with this massive set:
People Are Strange from the Ed Sullivan Show (video)
Dirty Roadhouse (studio outtake - audio)
There are other televised appearances that seem omitted: one where a drunken Jim Morrison, during a rendition of Light My Fire, crashes into the drums and collapses. It was the same show that had Morrison in dark shades singing Moonlight Drive that was featured on the video Dance On Fire.
This set seems to be including a lot of already released materials on DVD, so now I'm reconsidering my purchase. I might just wait for the individual albums to be released in 2007, just so I can get the superior sound that's lacking currently.
