So far so good. I'm pretty even with the trades and only one CD came without inserts.

The only thing that is driving me nuts is how to order more shipping mailers. They gave me my starter kit of 5 and they were gone in a day. Now I need to ship out 3 more. The FAQ says to go to your Have List to request more but I can't find a link or anything to ask for more. Am I blind or does lala automatically send you more mailers after you agree to ship a CD?

Any info would be graetly appreciated. I am slowly becoming a lala addict

P.S. my lala name is buckets8144

Well I have very slowly started to put my collection on the site. I am waiting on shippers to send 2 CDs off and I have 2 coming my way. I have only put about 30 CDs on and 12 are being requested, but none are ones I am willing to part at this time. I figure I will put another 5-10 a day when I have a chance, but 90% of the collection will probably be off-limits.

I gather that is to spark discussion about the music itself. When lala goes fully live, users will be able to purchase new CDs and even full album downloads. Having the ability to peruse other's collections and converse about them without swapping will lead to more purchases. I read somewhere that Bill Nguyen has this vision of creating an online version of the old school indie record shop, where people who love music go to check out whats in the bins and chat with the staff and other customers about bands and their music, make recommendations, etc.

They definitely want people to talk about music with each other. I just wish they'd have a way you could differentiate your permanent have list from a section for discs you want to trade. Unfortunately, I'm not sure they'll do this since you could possibly privately trade discs and Lala would lose a chance to make money (?).

I have four people clogging up my queue with discs that should have arrived a week ago. LaLa says they will purge those from your account after 21 days.

Yeah I've had that happen a few times. It sucks. I just hope it doesn't get even worse when they go public.

I debated if I should put them in or not. I think LaLa wants you to do it so it can say it has 10 million users with 1,000 million CDs, big fancy numbers that sound impressive to potential new users and the press (even if a small % are actually being traded). From the standpoint of finding users that have similiar tastes as me it makes sense to put everything on, not just the "crap". I will mark things as to keep for now except what I really don't want until the mechanics on this are fully disclosed by LaLa.

Yep.. I've got one of those. Today is the 14th day, when LaLa should send the person an email asking them to confirm. 7 more days to wait before LaLa autoconfirms and frees up that spot.

The undisclosed people really make me nervous as there is no public way to message them for others to see. All that you can do is send a private message, which most seem to ignore. I always send a private message to undisclosed traders, or make a blurb post to people that show their name. I message to either say that the cd went out in the mail, or that I received a cd and thanking them.

I wish they wouldnt' allow people to hide.

I wonder what kind of limit there is on shipping/receiving.

I've been with the site a couple weeks now. I've sent out 18 cds, 8 of which have been confirmed. 10 still in transit.

I've received 20 cds, 9 of which I have marked as received. 11 are still in transit.

So, right now, I have 10 cds on their way to someone and 11 on their way to me. Thats 21 cds on the move to/from me.

You got to wonder how many times the same disc without art is going to be traded back and forth (possibly to the same people). Of the 3 CDs I have coming it looks like 1 will be disc-only, 1 will be disc with booklet (but no back cover), and 1 that is unknown at this point. I hope to bring that average up and maybe that premium service mentioned will do that.

I'm enjoying this site so far; however, I doubt I'll stick with it for too long. At this point I'm just dumping duplicates still left over from the merger with my wife 7 years ago, as well as any CDs replaced by New & Improved remasters.

I used to trade CDs back in high school when I got tired of the disc, but ended up buying them again at some point or another. Once the duplicates are gone, I doubt I'll start trading my non-dupe cds.

I signed up thanks for the link. but I'm a collector so not having the art work (front and back) is a no no to me. right now I'm put up stuff that I have double or no interest in even though I haven't gotten a chance to add that many. but all I have that is not double is garbage, plus my want are latin/world music I'm sure not too many have laying around. I'll see how much I get out of this but I'm sure it won't be much.

I'm pretty much the same way. I've limited my Want List to either:
a: Compilation albums where I'm looking for one or two particular songs

b: OOP material where I don't want to pay Ebay prices, but hoping for a shot-in-the-dark

c: CDs that have never been remastered / deluxe editions / etc., but I anticipate them to be given the deluxe treatment at some point. LaLa is just a stop-gap for now. Then it won't hurt to double dip later on.

When I first joined, I listed only the CD's that I wanted to get rid of. What I discovered is that the recommendations that la la made about artists and albums I might like really sucked. Because it was recommending artists/albums most similar to the ones I was trying to get rid of! I went back and listed my entire CD collection, and the recommendations are much better now. I did get lots of trade requests for CD's I wasn't willing to part with, but now that I've clicked "Keep It" for most of those, they're not getting requested anymore.

Yeah, I know I won't hang on to discs that don't have the booklets long, they'll be sent right along if they get requested/when I get sick of listening to it.

So far I have received 2 discs, both with the booklets, neither with the back cover art. Both discs played, one was scratched up, the other was in perfect shape. I still have 3 more discs on the way to me. On the sending front, I have 5 in-transit that I am waiting for confirmation of delivery so I can ship some more out.
