I just joined yesterday and so far I have agreed to send out 5 (the max I'm allowed at the moment) and should be recieving 2.
This seems like a very good way to unload some things I either have two of or am just not into anymore.
I'm fender69 on there as well.

illennium 04-12-06 02:39 PM

fender69:

Sent you an email. If you're interested, email me back. If not, that's cool too. :)

I've tried signing up through the USA Today link, but it just hangs after I click on the 'create my account' button. Booo! I really want to be in this. :(

Are you using Safari on a Mac? I can't seem to get anything to load on my Mac. It all hangs for me. The site obviously hasn't been tested all that well.

I did get a shipping notice for my first CD. Cool.

Try using Firefox. I use Firefox on a Mac, and have no issues.

I do, I what I typed probably just came across wrong. It basically boils down to:

LaLa.com + Safari = No Worky :(

Hollowgen 04-13-06 09:25 AM

man, i'd be so for this if it involved the cd inserts + cd. if i just wanted the music, i'd download it all.

Cosmic Bus 04-13-06 09:48 AM

I had been trying to join in Opera, but it appears to have gone through via the dreaded Internet Explorer. I always forget that junk is even on here... :)

There are a group of people that include inserts. I am one of them. They do not require it, but they encourage it. It costs an additional 24 cents to mail with inserts. You pay for that part of it.

im another one who will send inserts with all cds. whats the point of keeping it if i dont have the cd anymore. im waiting for my first batch of envelopes to get here so i can ship out 4 cds. how long does it take to get the "starter kit"?

also is there a way to find out the member name of who you are trading a cd with? it would be nice to be able to contact them.

Buford T Pusser 04-13-06 10:25 PM

My starter kit arrived today.

My starter kit took about 4 days.

Under account information, go to Traded. If the user allows there name to be public, it will show up there next to the CD that you traded them. At that point you can click to their name and leave them a BLURB. You can't get an email address however, unless the user leaves it for you in the BLURB.

Double Down 04-14-06 11:32 AM

I'm another one that always includes artwork and inserts. I joined about 2 weeks ago and so far I've agreed to ship 4 and I'm supposed to receive 3 so it's pretty balanced.

After I get notice that somebody has agreed to ship me a CD, I immediately go to the "Traded" tab and see if the person's name is disclosed. If it is, I go to their page and send them a Blurb asking for the artwork and inserts. In 2 of the 3 cases the person agreed. In the last case, the person had received that disc from another LaLa member who didn't include the artwork. So, I will be receiving a CD without artwork. As such, I will feel compelled to pass it along since it's not in "collectible" condition. This is something that LaLa will have to work out and hopefully they will eventually require artwork to be included.

Great idea DD.

I received one disc so far and it had inserts. Everything I send out will also have inserts even if it does cost a bit more. The only thing I don't quite get is how the "Have" list seems to be something Lala wants to use so people can talk about their love of music with each other. The only problem with that is that my Haves are all crap CDs IMO. I'm not going to put CDs in my Have list I want to keep. Makes no sense.

Dan G 04-16-06 09:32 AM

I've been a member for a couple weeks now. I also include inserts with my CD's.
I still have a few invites left if anyone want one.

I was confused about that as well. I saw other users have done that and discuss, but then there were always people asking to buy it. Sounds like a hassle.

I agree that they haven't quite figured this part out yet. I'm guessing that in the future there will be a Trade List that is separate from the Have List. That way people can catalog their collections without it affecting the trade algorithm.

For now there is a Keep option that you can click for each CD that you don't want others to request. I am using lala to catalog my collection of 1000+ CDs and have chosen to keep most of them.

Cosmic Bus 04-16-06 08:26 PM

I'm slightly confused on how to handle the insert situation, as well as CDs that come in digipaks. I've heard both that: sending inserts costs nothing more as long as the booklet isn't more than 4 pages/sending inserts costs approx. 25 cents more. I plan on including them in all possible trades, but how I do I know for sure if it's going to cost me extra? Am I going to have to have each envelope weighed at the post office or do I just take the chance that it might be returned to me for insufficient postage?

To be safe, I decided that the first few times I send CDs I will weigh them myself at an automated postal center (APC). I figure after weighing a few different envelopes I will get a feel for which ones need additional postage.

So far, I have weighed my first 5 envelopes. The corresponding inserts ranged in size from 4-page (one sheet folded over, basically) plus tray insert, to 16-page (3 sheets folded over) plus tray insert. For each of them, the base postage was sufficient. The paper stock was very light, so I don't know if heavier stock would bump up the postage.

On an unrelated note, the main problem I am having so far is that casual new members are not acknowledging receipt of CDs that I sent. This is a major annoyance as it puts me in a holding pattern.

Cosmic Bus 04-16-06 11:05 PM

Alright, sounds like I'll be taking my first batch to the post office to be on the safe side. I've got four lined up to send tomorrow, and two on the way (including an unfortunately lame Roxy Music album that I apparently added to my 'wants' by accident).

I'll have to take some time in the near future to expand my want list. As it stands now, there's only one CD I'm after that someone has available. Hopefully the selection will continue to expand as more people sign up, and I'll be e-mailing them with a number of discs I'd like to offer but aren't showing up in the database yet. Also, I wish Lala could open trading up to import discs, as I've got some UK and Canadian releases to unload.

atlantamoi 04-17-06 07:47 AM

So far, I'm liking this site. Getting a disc that I've wanted for eons (Young Fresh Fellows). I was about to trade a Tricky CD I don't care for and decided to listen to it first to make sure. Oops. The delay cost me the trade since it seems someone else sent it to the person seeking. Little lesson learned.

About inserts. Lala says they charge 49 cents for shipping, but my first batch of envelopes have 63 cent stamps. Same for you guys?

illennium, thanks for the tip about the "Keep" preference. Wasn't aware of it.
