I'll be happy enough if The Smiths would release complete live recordings of some of their concerts from the '80s (the truncated concert on "Rank" just isn't enough!)

It's a lot of money (although it will have to go four ways you would assume AND then there is management, roadies, lighting etc - it would soon deplete). Besides Morrissey can tour solo and receive the adulation, perform Smiths songs and still make money. It would be nice to see them back but I can see all the reasons why it will probably never happen! |

this is very true. I saw Morrisey at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. The crowd was at least half hispanic if not more. I was really suprised. Crowd got rough too. Saw two fights break out. |

While there, he recorded note-for-note backing tracks to the Smiths' 1987 compilation album The World Won't Listen with studio musicians and then captured local fans singing along to their favorite songs in front of an improvised film set. (video, 70 mins.) The ongoing project reflects Collins's belief that the band piercingly captures the sentiments of isolation and being misunderstood experienced by fans in many countries. I don't think it's fair to compare him to Hassellhoff. The novelty of Hasselhoff is that he's largely a joke in the US and has idol status in Europe. Morrissey, (though obviously an acquired taste) is taken seriously as a singer and especially as a songwriter. |
I remember reading about his abstinence several years ago.
