The Slackers' "Peculiar"

(true to my moniker, i'll plug good ska/reggae forever on - Dr. Ring-Ding is a German ska MC)

this album came out a week and a half ago and i realized that i forgot to plug it here.

if you like reggae or ska and are unfamiliar with the Slackers, you're missing out BIG time.

anyway, i hope this thread will at least get one more person to check them out. this album isn't as great as some of their past albums, but i'd still say it's much better than a majority of stuff i'm hearing now-a-days from almost any genre.

Their homepage has a (home)video up for their song "Keep It Simple".

"What When Wrong" is now my favorite Slackers track. Great new album, but many of the tracks are from "International War Criminal"

I haven't seen them live since they released "Close My Eyes"...I'm hoping they'll do a US tour again sometime soon.

Tygan 03-10-06 02:28 PM

Oops..that should read "What Went Wrong"

DrRingDing 03-10-06 06:53 PM

most of the songs are on Int'l War Criminal, true, but all but one ("Rider") are new versions. this comes from the band itself on its website.

they have some US tour dates posted on their website too. unfortunately, i don't think they'll be making it to the Czech Republic any time soon... :(

Nice..."Watch This" was one of the best tracks from Redlight. The closest the get to Kansas City is Denver and I doubt that I'll be driving 8+ hours each way to see them. Oh well.

this is a sadly inactive thread - just you and i, tygan. i know people are uninterested in "ska", but this band deserves larger recognition. *sigh*

Yup, not much love out there for The Slackers I guess.

i'm just getting into these guys. probably gonna pick up this album next time i'm at the cd store. is "close my eyes" better?

DrRingDing 03-14-06 08:33 AM

start with Redlight, IMO. all of their albums are good, if not great, except their first one, IMO. for more bang for your buck, it's hard to beat The Question just because of the sheer quantity of songs on the album. Close My Eyes is not their strongest album. i think this one is slightly better. my favorites are Redlight, The Question and Wasted Days.

but, really, you can't go wrong with any of their releases.

Better Late Than Never has a few good tracks on them, but they aren't as polished as their latest albums. I agree with RingDing's album listing.
