Downloaded off iTunes this morning and was listening to it. I thought to myself "I wonder what track this is?" So I checked and it was All Within My Hands from St. Anger. No wonder it sounded so familiar. I forgot to turn off shuffle.

Damn. I wish I wasn't at work so I could make it to HT and get the album and a shirt for $5. I'll probably just go to CC and pick it up for $8.99 on my lunch break.

Yeah. I could barely hear Lars' double bass, so I figured it had been tweaked. Ill pick up the cd for 5 bucks.

I'm going through this on my second time now.....

it is fucking LOUD. The material is so so so good IMO but the mastering could have been toned down and more dynamic for sure. I don't know much about audio and the distortion/clipping that the posters on the 'tallica boards are discussing but many are returning/boycotting/petitioning which seems a bit much.

did I mention it is LOUD?

I am so glad I read this before I left for lunch. Only thing is Hot Topic only had the digi-pak version. But it does have the same UPC #, so I'm tempted to buy the jewel case one and return this one.

I bought mine at Hot Topic this morning as well. I didn't realize that there's a jewel case version. I would have rather paid more for the jewel case version since I have best buy GCs. I didn't like any of the $5 T-Shirts they had.

The only $5 shirt I saw was just a silver "MetallicA" on black.

Is it morally wrong to want to buy the jewel case version, and then return the digi-pak with the same receipt?

The entire album is available for listening, via streaming, on Metallica.com.

Even purchasing the advance tracks from iTunes it would have still been cheaper to buy the $5 album at HT. Too late now though. Oh well.

At my store they said all Metallica shirts were $5. They had the silver MetallicA one you saw and then 3 Pushead shirts.

I'm pretty much past my band shirt-wearing days.

Maybe, if you can figure out how to prove it. Even the girl at Hot Topic said they were not allowed to even say they were selling them for $5 until this morning. There is not advertised proof.

I just stopped at another Best Buy on the way home, was going to pick up the jewel case, but all they had were digi-paks.

For $5, I think I can live with the digi-pak.

Since there's a Hot Topic and a Best Buy at my local shopping center, I decided to wander into HT and pick up my copy there. Skipped on the t-shirt, but I figure $5 is about a good a price as you're going to get. Hell, when this shows up as used inventory at Amoeba, it won't be that cheap.

Listened to the first two songs on the real CD in my car at the same volume and EQ settings. CD definitely sounds better - probably by 5-10%. Kicks are a little better - more clarity overall. Still the loudness maximization was way too overdone here. This CD is easily loudest CD I have heard in my car. I never have my volume below 42/60, and this one I have to keep at 37-38.

The only thing I saw at BB other than the regular album was a CD/DVD set with Guitar Hero III tracks on it. For $39.99, they can keep it.

Good album.

FUCK! I knew I should have don't the jewel case switch! The back cover of the bookled is GLUED to the inner flap of the digi-pak. You can't remove it! And what's the point of putting the lyrics in there if they're all cut off by the big gaping holes in the pages?

Goddammit!

I had a friend pick this up with a shirt at HT today. $10 for both is a steal. I like the simplicity of the design on the shirt. The actual CD sounds better than the MP3's I had, but it is still loud as hell. No biggie, I dig it.

I've listened to both and they both sound awful. If anything the improved bitrate of the CD makes the clipping/distortion even more obvious if that makes sense.

Well, shit. I wish I would have known about the Hot Topic thing earlier. I don't think I can make it to one before they close tonight.

Yup, it's clipping all over the place.

So I went to Best Buy, picked up a jewel case version and they price matched it to $5. The person behind the counter didn't even bother calling them. So I went next door to the mall to take back the digipack. Unfortunately I had to drive my coworkers for lunch today, and because I didn't want them to think I shopped at Hot Topic, I tossed the bag... with the receipt inside. Hot Topic wouldn't take the CD back so I've now got two copies. If anybody is willing to paypal me $7.50 or so to cover fees and shipping I'll send it out to you.

Scratch that. I remembered there is a Hot Topic a couple of blocks from where I work. I ran down and grabbed one, leaving at least another 20 on the shelf. I really dislike the digipak, but I won't be using it much once it's ripped to the computer.

$5? Sounds like a good deal to me.

I honestly wasn't planning on picking up the album, but for $5, hell you can't go wrong with that price.

Favorite track so far is "The End of the Line." That song alone, I would've paid $5 for.
