1. (virtual)Gorillaz and then (real)Madonna kicked it off, doing "Feel Good, Inc." and "Hung Up" respectively.
2. Coldplay doing "Sight and Sound" i believe.
3. Sugarland doing there hit.
4. Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder did a little acapella diddy "Higher Ground" right before they presented pop vocal i think.
5. U2 did "Vertigo" and then "One" with Mary J. Blige
6. Keith Urban and Faith Hill.
7. John Legend.
8. Kelly Clarkson did "Because of You"
9. Sly and the Family Stone tribute with Joss Stone, Maroon 5, Ciara, guy from Black Eyed Peas, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Sly came out for just a bit.
10. Paul McCartney did one of his new ones and a really good rendition of "Helter Skelter".
11. Jay Z. and Linkin Park did there just won "Numb/Encore". then Sir Paul came out for "Yesterday".
12. Mariah did two of her new ones "We Belong Together", the 2nd with a gospel chorus and she went off.
13. Bruce Springsteen doing his great, serene self.
**EDIT**
14. Kanye and Jaime Fox are now lighting it up with "Gold Digger"! ...now that's what i'm talkin' bout! great performance.

i think that is it thus far. excellent, excellent performances all around!

shaun3000 02-08-06 09:33 PM

You forgot to mention that Paul McCartney came back out with Jay Z. and Linkin Park when they started singing Yesterday. He looked royally annoyed when the white guy (Linkin Park?) kept getting off key.

I've never seen an awards show with more technical glitches.

--Sugarland's wireless system got backstage signals
--Mariah's song was played when U2 won
--loud backstage noise (or feedback) during Dave Chappele's time at the mic
--the guest of honor (Sly Stone) walked out in the middle of his tribute song

such is a live show. doesn't detract in the least.

i think that was Sly's doing. it was most likely due to health. he is frail and probably couldn't take much. i even think an oxygen tube was attached to one of his mic's. i could be wrong on that as he didn't take any air, but it looked like its' only purpose.

I think it may have been a crack pipe.

That was a GREAT "Golddigger"

j123vt_99 02-08-06 09:45 PM

Kanye sure knows how to entertain... Sheryl Crow's chest looks scary in HD

DGibFen 02-08-06 09:47 PM

I think Kanye is now having a minor meltdown back stage. (Green Day winning record of the year)

I was hoping they would show his reaction... I really like Kanye, but that Green Day song may be the best I've heard in 3 or 4 years

i know so far aced out of 3 on the televised show. he won 2 already though, but we all know he is about the exploitation! "Boulevard" is an incredible rock track...all 9 or so minutes of it!

Local media went nutty when Senator Barrack Obama was nominated for a Grammy... they're gonna be downright batshit now that he won

I'd assume, since it is really just one long song.

GuessWho 02-08-06 10:25 PM

Nice sentiment and intent, but this finale is anti-climatic

Scorpio 02-08-06 10:45 PM

I tuned in just in time to see a rapper lose to a rock band, and an all-star line up jamming to end the show. Win-win situation.

Joeboo835 02-08-06 10:51 PM

I had to turn this off when they had the award for "Best Rap colaboration".

I just can't take it anymore.

Rogue588 02-09-06 12:58 AM

To answer the thread's question....no.

Well, U2 & Mary were good.

You want fantastic, check out the ORIGINAL version by Donny Hathaway. All Aguilera does is oversing.

Daniel-A 02-09-06 03:24 AM

Ok here're my reviews by performance.

Gorillaz & Madonna
Gorillaz were on point. They sound great even live. I'm not sure how I feel

about seeing the men behind Gorillaz, though. In a way it is cool to see

who they are, but at the same time, it takes away from what Gorillaz are.

Madonna was her normal bland self. Trying to be the same woman she was in

the 80's. She has that syndrome of 40 year old women trying to act like

they are teenagers. I did like that Gorillaz stayed "on stage" with her,

though I would have prefered if it were just them and her, or at least not

her backup band.

Stevie Wonder & Alicia Keys
Ok it wasn't really a performance, but I've always loved Higher Ground and

think they did great without a band and the crowd clapping off beat.

Coldplay
"You know how I know you are gay? You like Coldplay!" :D
Call me gay. I'm a Coldplay fan, and really like Talk. It was my ringtone

for a while, but that made me hate the song, but it has been long enough

that I like it again. They did well enough, though I don't really think

with their type of music that you gain anything from seeing them "live" or

not.

John Legend
I'm not a huge fan of his, though I don't take anything away from the kind

of music he performs. I thought his was a really great performance. The man

can belt out. He reminds me of a younger, skinnier, not blind Stevie Wonder

or he could be if he wanted to.

Sugarland
Never heard of them before today. Couldn't believe the interference they

were getting during their song. Utterly horrible work by the stage crew.

Other than that they did pretty good. Not my cup of tea but they were

really into it and rocked as hard as they could.

U2 & Mary J. Blige
Bleh, I hate U2. Haven't liked them for over a decade now, but they perform

great live if you do like them. Vertigo in particular pained me to hear for

how much I don't like U2, but even I admit they did a great job with it.

Same goes for whatever the second song they played was.

Mary J. Blige was awful. Her sound doesn't fit in with U2 at all. Her half

of the performs really dragged down the U2 half. She hasn't done anything I

like since the song she had with Method Man so many years ago.

Kelly Clarkson
I'm a massive fan of hers. Breakaway was my favorite popular album of last

year. I even went to the theaters to watch From Justin to Kelly. My rose

colored goggles are so bad that I didn't think it was that awful of a

movie. That being said, her performance was good. She has an amazing voice,

look, everything. The only thing I can say bad about her is her choice of

clothing. Not what she was wearing in the performance but that bulky prom

dress she was wearing to get her awards.

Paul McCartney
Haven't liked any of his solo stuff. Could've been just as good if they put

a radio on the stage and played a casette tape.

The second song was actually a lot better. Really respect that he tried to

"rock" at his old age.

Mariah Carey & Choir (Sorry I didn't catch their name)
Haven't liked her since she became more about image and less about her

music. She can still sing, but her songs aren't the same as they were

before she became a slutty ho-bag. Good thing she did become one, though as

it is the only way I can stand to watch her anymore.

The choir totally out sung her. I tried to make my ears tune out Mariah and

listen to them only. They were amazing. Makes me wish I were a baptist.

Faith Hill & Keith Urban
Glad to see the country love from the Grammy's. 2 different country

performances. I don't care whether or not "real" country fans consider

it country or pop.

Keith Urban's 1st song was great. He's got a voice that can range but

doesn't sound like he should be singing R&B or some pop junk. A great

overall musician and performance.

Faith Hill was good though not as good as Keith Urban. I didn't really care

for the song.

Sly & The Family Stone, et. al.
Joss Stone was awful. I can't stand anything she does. I hate her music her

singing voice her speaking voice, etc.

John Legend - couldn't really make him out apart from everyone else.

Van Hunt (Sp?) did great. His was the one sound of all the extras that fit

best with what Sly was about.

Fantasia - Compeletely out of place, the way she sings wasn't right at all.

Devon Lima - Sang well but didn't really fit.

Maroon 5 & Ciara - Don't really like them, but they sang well with Ciara,

though I don't know if they were right for a Sly tribute.

Will.I.Am - I'm a big B.E.P. fan, but I don't like what he did here. Not

sure, but was that he sang his own lyrics?

Some of Aerosmith - Didn't help matters. The whole thing was cluttered

beyond hope.

Sly - Amazing to see him back. Couldn't have wished for more. Well

maybe less people with mics. Loved his faux hawk. Or was it real? :D

Altogether was not such a wonderful collaberation. Probably would have

enjoy Sly alone more than all this.

Jay-Z & Linkin Park & Sir Paul?
Really don't like Linkin Park and I mildly enjoy Jay-Z but I've really

enjoyed their mashup album. The song they did fits together awesomely.

Linkin Park really blows live, though. They did much much better on the MTV

(or MTV2) special they had with Jay-Z. Jay-Z on the other hand shines live.

I'm still waiting for him to come out of his retirement. There are enough

devoted fans that he could go platinum for a few more million $.

Sir Paul + whoever the singer for LP is was awful.

Bruce Springsteen
Don't think the song was one that could have a really great performance.

Though, the Boss wasn't exactly boss here.

Kanye West & Jamie Foxx
I'm a big fan of each of them. Though I don't know what the hell was going

on with them today. It certainly wasn't like all the other times I've seen

them together, but I'm not so sure that is a good thing. Kanye is a great

producers and all, but the whole marching band and alter on the step club

thing was too weird. "We want prenup!"

Herbie Hancock & Christina Aguilera
He's amazing, she's amazing (when she is really singing). Him + her

amazing. I miss the old Christina.

Finale (didnt catch any name aisde from Yolanda Adams)
A great all around performance. Everyone involved meshed well and did a

great job.

Overall Rankings: (Best to worst by performance not song, separating

the duo acts if I want to)

raven56706 02-09-06 08:12 AM

i think the only performance that was great was Paul McCartney's.... everything else sucked

Giles 02-09-06 08:15 AM

I caught the tail end of the show 10-11:30 - and I have to say I thought of what I saw - it was dull dull dull dull... dull. Compared to other awards shows, the number of commercials CBS ran was borderline excessive.

grunter 02-09-06 08:54 AM

Um, since when are the Grammys on a Wednesday?

Aren't award shows like this usually on a Sunday night?

What the hell?
