I'm thinking it's hard to judge this list based on the fact that we were not given the qualification parameters. I don't think this is merely a list of best albums originating from Britain. This is most likely a list of albums with a uniquely British feel/theme to them. Or perhaps albums that refer to a specifically British way of life/politics.

Nice try but if this were a list of albums with a "British feel" to them there'd be 5 Kinks albums in the Top 10.

Another dumb-ass NME list that's hardly worth responding to (Jesus Christ, can the Brits please get over their ridiculous Stone Roses infatuation?). Having said that, the above are the only albums I don't own.
Hiro, do yourself a favor and get Muse's absolution. It's brilliant.

This was the name Peter Cooke & Dudley Moore used for some of their more risqué comedy sketches.

On the NME site the 2003 list sits above the 2006 one. It may be of interest to compare and contrast:

I've heard it, just didn't actually go and buy it. I like their earlier stuff better.

I'm thrilled that "Absolution" by Muse is not only on the chart, but ranked as high as it is. They just keep getting better with each album. Fingers crossed they can top this on their next effort. Save for Q magazine, I cannot believe the British press still snub Depeche Mode. Thought for sure "Black Celebration" or "Violator" would have been on this chart. Even their latest, the brilliant "Playing the Angel", is far more worthy a mention than the Arctic Monkeys. Last, have the Pretenders been disqualified from any British "Best Of" lists because 1/4 of the members isn't English? Their first album has been on many lists in the past. It should definitely be on this list. And in the top 20.

Why would anyone be thrilled by the inclusion of an album they like on a shite list like this? It's like being thrilled that your wife is ranked high on a list made by pimps.

Whatever. I personally think there are some great albums on this list. Do I agree with the order? No.

Okay, I like Franz Ferdinand, Blur and Stone Roses just fine. But above any listing by New Order or Joy Division?
