Here's my list. I doubt I'll be updating it anymore. I have loads of other stuff, but I think I managed to list pretty much everything I was at all excited about and I don't know if it's worth it to me to start digging through stacks and shelves looking for anything with a 2006 date, considering how little Geoff pays per post.

I wonder what happened to alexcuse, He has ranked over 300 albums but hasn't updated since 09-07-06 at 06:43 PM. It would suck to see such a big list go incomplete.

I just want to make sure on a point here. If an album was released in September of 2005 (I don't know how big a release it was) and then re-released with an extra track and a bigger push in 2006, that would make it ineligible for this list, right? That's what happened with Giant Drag's - Hearts and Unicorns which was easily my most listened to album this year. I'm fine with leaving it off my list (I had it at #5 at one point until I found out about the previous release date) but I enjoyed this album so much I hate to leave it off if I don't need to.

Finally gave my rankings one last update. I had to leave some albums unevaluated since I couldn't give them a good listen. I wanted my list to be included in the final tally, so them's the breaks.

Unfortunately, that would be a Best of 2005 album. IMO, the re-release in 2006 was basically just a reissue. No different than releasing an album made in 1995 with bonus tracks.

Agreed.....but it would be unfair to use his list if he hasn't taken into account any albums released in the last four months either. If we allowed lists that we're never updated, The Strokes would still be firmly implanted in the top ten simply because they released their album in January '06.

After 300+ albums, I simply got too busy/lazy to update and then just lost track. Here's how I'd rank my top twenty right now (based on US release dates):
  1. Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope
  2. The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
  3. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
  4. Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
  5. Jay Chou - Still Fantasy
  6. Hoobastank - Every Man for Himself
  7. Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll
  8. Bob Dylan - Modern Times
  9. Damien Rice - 9
  10. The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea
  11. Plain White T's - Every Second Counts
  12. The Knife - Silent Shout
  13. She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge
  14. Hellogoodbye - Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!
  15. Jack Johnson & Friends - Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies for the Film Curious George
  16. Action Action - An Army of Shapes Between Wars
  17. Nelly Furtado - Loose
  18. Loreena McKennitt - An Ancient Muse
  19. The Killers - Sam's Town
  20. Incubus - Light Grenades
