What? Cherry Valance is awesome except their latest isn't top of their game but if you are looking for Motley Crue sounding garage then Cherry Valance is your band and Baby Woodrose has yet to release something I don't like.

Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and the Rolling Stones were heavily influenced by the blues around 1970. One of my favorites from that era that you don't hear on the radio is Zeppelin's "Travelling Riverside Blues."

Re: What are some good blues rock bands like white stripes and black keys?

First of all, I'm sorry for bumping this thread, but it was exactly what I was looking for. I've been checking out the bands listed here and really diggin' the most of it.
And since this thread is almost 4 years old I was wondering if you guys have some newer bands to recommend.
I guess I'll start with the obvious stuff like The Raconteurs ( this thread is really old), Dead Weather (it seems promising) and Dan's solo album Keep it Hid (a little different from the Key's but still really good).

Ooh, I didn't know Dan had a solo album *heads for Amazon*

As for new recommendations, I often mix The Black Keys in a playlist with Kings of Leon and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

If the like the Stripes and the Keys, you must check out a band called House of Freaks. They were one of the original 'two guys that sound like a whole band' groups from the late 80's/early 90's. Start with 'Tantilla'

Sadly though, Bryan Harvey, who was the singer/songwriter/guitarist was brutally murdered in a random home invasion along with his wife & two young daughters a few years ago.

I've been plugging them for a while here.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Kings of Leon yet.

Also check out, R.L. Burnside & Junior Kimbrough

Re: What are some good blues rock bands like white stripes and black keys?

White Stripes are blues rock??????? Huh???

Regardless, if you want to be blown out of your shoes try:
Silvertide
Then move to these for some REAL blues rock:
Arc Angels
Gov't Mule is a great southern blues/rock band
Led Zep(of course)
Allman Brothers Band
SRV
Good Luck!

I give a thumbs up to Kings Of Leon but fail to see how this is blues-rock?????

I stopped listening to them a little after Elephant Riders which I still listen to and love. Some of the newer stuff like Electric Worry is pretty good too - but I still like the older stuff better, like the self titled one and Elephant Riders.

Singing with a midwest accent doesn't make you a blues/rock band.

That one is on there most recent cd From Beale Street to Oblivion. Blast Tyrant is my favorite. Also Robot Hive:Exodus is a great album (it's the first one I heard and made me a fan). They have a new one coming out on July 7th!

I always wanted to check out Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac but never got around to getting anything from them. Same thing with Free.
How about some Gary Moore? He's a rip-roaring gutair player that plays a lot of great blues tunes.

Re: What are some good blues rock bands like white stripes and black keys?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely give a listen to some of these bands.

I didn't mentioned on my previous post, but my Brian Setzer's records are on heavy rotation lately. I guess it fits that vintage sound this thread is aiming for.

Actually, technically, what he was mostly playing would more accurately be classified in the ragtime idiom. Although, of course, not in the strictest sense of the classical ragtime piano music like that of Scott Joplin or Joseph Lamb. Authentic blues has a more conventional twelve-bar structure in its stanzas.

That's exactly what I was thinking, although you seem to have stated it better than I.

Re: What are some good blues rock bands like white stripes and black keys?

I'm kind of wondering how some of these count as blues rock?

My list would be the yardbirds, John Mayall, downliner's sect, lots of 60s freakbeat bands, some rolling stones, and for more boogie/blues- humble pie, the faces
