I've been through every single book I've known, soothe the thoughts that plague me so. Sink like a stone that's been thrown in the ocean, my logic has drown in a sea of emotion. Stop before I start, be still my beating heart - Sting

That joke isn't funny anymore. It's too close to home and it's too near the bone, too close to home and it's too near the bone more than you'll ever know - The Smiths

There's a club if you'd like to go. There could be somebody who really loves you. So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home and you cry and you want to die. - The Smiths

I am surrendering to the gravity and the unknown. Catch me. Heal me. Lift me back up to the sun. Help me survive the bottom..........I chose to live - A Perfect Circle

Let me take you on a trip. Around the world and back. And you don't have to move you just sit still. Now let your mind do the walking. And let my body do the talking. Let me show the world in my eyes - Depeche Mode

Here is the plea. From my heart to you. Nobody knows me as well as you do. You know how hard it is for me to shake the disease that takes hold of my tongue in situations like these. - Depeche Mode

And I feel your warmth and it feels like home and there's someone calling on the telephone. Let's stay home it's cold outside and I have something to confide to you. With or without words I'll confide everything. - Depeche Mode

Count me in for Sting too..! I don't know what a favorite line would be, but his most beautiful song is easily "I Was Brought To My Senses".

When I was going through a fairly depressed phase years and years ago, I used to sing the one line to myself from "You Still Touch Me": "Another night finds me alone..."

good one.

One that instantly came to mind:

I guess you'd call it suicide, but I'm too full to swallow my pride - the police

and a terrible line that I used to make fun of my friends for listening to:

I was looking for a job and then I found a job - The Smiths

Well, I've had all that I wanted, of a lot of things I've had
And a lot more than I needed of some things that turned out bad.

I want that carved on my tombstone. Seriously.

Another one:

When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child has grown, the dream is gone

And of course:

Angelina Jolie got some big ass titties :)

Actually it's one of their few cover versions but their whole catalogue is filled with gems from Morrissey's own quill:-

It's so easy to laugh, It's so easy to hate - it takes strength to be gentle and kind (I Know it's Over)

I know the wind-swept mystical air - it means "I'd like to see your underwear!" (Miserable Lie)

Let me get my hands, on your mammary glands! (Handsome Devil)

Fifteen minutes with you, oh well I wouldn't say no. Oh people said that you were virtually dead, but they were so wrong. (Reel Around the Fountain)

And the pain was enough to make a shy, bald, buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder... (Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before)

I'll leave it at that but really I could nominate most of Morrissey's words with the Smiths without even thinking about his solo work.

In the garden, I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
And you . . . you were acting like it was the end of the world.

Honestly, Maynard can do no wrong. I bet he could write a song based off of tax laws and still make it sound better than top 20 on the radio.

"I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick on the cigarettes there in the ashtray
Lyin’ cold the way you left ’em, but at least your lips caressed them while
You packed
Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee that you poured and didn’t drink
But at least you thought you wanted it, that’s so much more than I can ever say
For me"

--Elvis Costello, "Good Year For The Roses"

Drexl 12-09-05 10:13 AM

Beck has some real doozies:

"I've got a beard that would disappear if I'm dressed in leather"

"The world is your oyster, and the trash bags are your kids"

"Personality test, I failed with the best"
