Who else should Rick Rubin work with?
After benefiting from Rubin's efforts with Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond I was thinking about who else could use his magic touch.
Someone else alreday got to McCartney and I think Rod Stewart should get his act together and quit selling Frank Sinatra songs to old ladies. Who would you like to see Rubin take back to their roots? |
well, Danzig has been crap without him, but I think that's a lost cause. there are a bunch of Scandavian metal bands that I'd like to see him work with (Dimmu Borgir, At The Gates----assuming they reform as expected, Opeth). Also, Kool Keith.
|
I'm gonna have to go with Trixter.
If Rick could channel the Trixer of old-back in their heyday (1968-1977) they were a force to be reckoned with , we could all die happy. |
If he hadn't retired from recording, I'd say a Billy Joel/Rick Rubin collaboration would be very interesting.

Just based on "99 Problems," he REALLY needs to get back into hip-hop production. That was an excellent beat and my favorite Jay-Z song (admittedly, I'm not much of a fan).
As for who, a Kool Keith (mentioned above) collaboration would be very interesting. |

there was talk about it, but I also just read (looking for the link) that the Jonas Björler (the guitarist) said it's just a rumor. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=38412 Adrian Erlandsson (the drummer) mentioned a reunion at the pearl drums forum, but that's all I've heard. He said they'd do so "when the time was right" so who knows what that means. If it means $$$$, I'm sure they'd put aside personal differences. |

If he did something with Jeff Lynne or Elton John, I would love to hear those results.

KISS.
I would love to see Rubin whip those lazy fucks into real music makers. |
Nick and Jessica.
The two most over-exposed and talentless people in the music industry record an album together as their marriage is disintegrating, giving the audience an up-close and personal chronicle of their inane fantasy world crumbling. And a well-timed murder-suicide the week before its release would cement the project in music history. What better guy than Rick Rubin to twist the knobs? |

Original Sepultura, with Max.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers...... give them a new twist, they froze creatively in Y2K
NAS...............................brilliant Lyricist with inconsistent music Id start with them! |
How about Bruce Springsteen? He's still a brilliant songwriter, but he would certainly benefit from a new sound and some outside influences.

Kiss WOULD be a good one, I think. So would Cheap Trick or Motorhead...maybe, ummm, David Bowie.
|
Rod Stewart or Cheap Trick - both of those work for me.
|
I think the following could also use a Rubin kick in the pants:
Eric Clapton Todd Rundgren Roger McGuinn, David Crosby & Chris Hillman together Neil Young & Stephen Stills together |
Given that Gen-X and Y are mainly aware of Neil Diamond (even fans of, though likely not without irony) thanks to Will Ferrell, I'd say it's only right that Rick Rubin help with a career revitalization for Robert Goulet. :)

Jackson Browne or Sting
