Architecture & Morality is generally regarded as their best by fans, but I have to admit finding Dazzle Ships to be my favorite as well. "Genetic Engineering" is my all-time favorite OMD song, which is found on this album, for instance. That, combined with the experimental tape-loop effects and generally strangeness (All Music Guide compares this album with Radiohead's Kid A) puts it ahead of the more traditional releases, IMO.

Then again, I'm a weird guy.

Thanks for sorting out my botched vote. I promise never to act like the state of Florida again.

I would vote A&M as my favorite simply for the awesome song, "Souvenir". Nice to know that there are OMD fans here that know more about them than just "If You Leave" .

I disagree. Dazzle Ships is a unique album in their catalog and has some of their best songs. I think it just works well as a cohesive set of material.

Edit:

favorite songs:
genetic engineering
telegram
radio waves.

Not at all. I typed the explaination very quickly (as I usually do) and made a bunch of gramatical and spelling errors (once again, as I usually do). I usually go back and fix the muddled mess you see. I did indeed mean to vote for Mordred. I just can't deny that list of albums.

Well, at least I put up something of a fight against Aphex Twin. And I got Numanoid's vote, which is cool.

1. cdollaz. Radiohead and the Clash take it for me. I have that Kings of Leon album and I think it's pretty average.

2. illennium. That would be me. I love Aphex's middle picks, but I've gotta say--the Beatles get too much love around here. I recognize their contribution to pop music, but honestly, I don't know if I'll ever put on another one of their records voluntarily. To me, they've become more of a cultural icon than a band, and their music, while still enjoyable as pop 40 years later, isn't really challenging anymore in the way that the music of some of their contemporaries still is. I particularly recommend The Flamin' Groovies, a criminally underheard pop band from the 60's on whose experimentation with psychedelia dug much deeper than that of the Beatles.

3. DJLinus. Again, not really a fan of James, but the other picks make up for it.

4. maxfisher. Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Eels, and Magnetic Fields clinch it, although I think that Doves record is nothing special. I have a hard time getting through the whole thing.

I cannot believe maxfisher came back from 9 down at one point to beat me. Quite the amazing comeback.

Outsiders voted 11 to 6 for BDB, 14 to 3 for Aphex, 12 to 5 for jimdrix and 9 to 8 for Mordred.

Aphex Twin continues to have a LOT of variation as to who votes for him from round to round. cdollaz had some variation, DJLinus and myself had very little.

Yeah, I was amazed that I came back. You were totally kicking my ass for the first half of the vote. Excellent round. I thought you might be hurt a bit from your first 3 picks, as all of those artists have fallen from their peak and that sometimes causes their earlier works to get a bum rap as well. Your list was a great selection of important records by important artists though and, like I said, I'm amazed I came back. If we do another variation of a musicdraft in a couple weeks, I'm hoping I don't have to go up against you in an early round.

Also, in counting up the votes, I noticed that whaaat voted twice. I'm guessing he meant to delete his first post, as one of his votes changed. It didn't affect any of the outcomes this round, but we might want to be careful in watching for mistakes in the next two.

Crap, you are correct about Whaaat. Somehow I had his first votes down as from a non-participant. It appears you won by two votes then... not quite as close.

Thanks. I didn't catch that. I'm glad it didn't affect the outcome.

Nice job, maxfisher. Good Luck next round.
