Re: The Decemberists - 'What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World ' (Jan. 2015)

Just saw them in concert last night - great concert! One of the better concerts I've been to. Played a good mix of old and new. And a great way to end the concert with the encore of Mariner's Revenge Song, complete with a huge whale cutout that came and "swallowed" all the band as they played.

Nice, I was wondering if they took the whale on tour with them - or if it was a hometown crowd only thing.

New album I'll Be Your Girl is out tomorrow. Currently up on NPR: https://www.npr.org/2018/03/12/59236...l-be-your-girl

It has been a few years since I've seen them and I haven't listened heavily to their output since Hazards of Love (love the stuff earlier than that), but they are playing a show pretty close to, so I'll probably go.

Re: The Decemberists -- Appreciation Thread

there aren't many bands I would say this about but this is a band I would welcome a greatest hits compilation from

I usually enjoy their "singles" but have never been a fan of any of their long players from front to back

Never really got into them. Care to share your thoughts on “greatest hits”?

There is a "This Is: The Decemberists" playlist on Spotify. That would be a good start.

This album uses a lot of synths and a dig it.

Cueing it up right now, solely due to this thread. Thanks

More synths is always a good thing. The Crane Wife & Hazards Of Love are two of my favorites from the 2000's. I haven't been to keen on anything since. Hopefully this is a return to form.

I don't like the Casio production on this album very much. The Decemberists now sound like some New Wave electronic group.

The Crane Wife remains one of the very best albums of the 2000s.
