Ladytron

Did a search, looks like Ladytron has been mentioned a few times but has never gotten a thread.

Ladytron - Witching Hour

Ladytron were one of the few bright spots in that (now dated) "Electro-clash" movement. Their sound is very early 80's synth, but as a critic mentioned, they're "...a teasing glimpse of how Britney Spears might have sounded, had she been born in the GDR and a heroin addict."

Their new album is pretty damn good. There was a huge decline from their debut 604 to their follow-up Light and Magic. The new album doesn't have anything as strong or catchy as "Discotraxx" or "Playgirl" but it has a lot of good songs and the sound is a progression from where Ladytron started, not more of the same. I was very very hesitant at first because I didn't want Light & Magic 2, but this is nicely changed sound that still sounds like Ladytron.

I'm a big fan of this new cd. I had never heard of them and checked them out based on a friend's advice. Kind of reminded of my mid-90's Republica listening days .

I'm a pseudo-fan of Ladytron. Love their homages to the early '80s scene in both style and image, but their songwriting leaves something to be desired. Great intentions, mediocre results. Still doesn't stop me from spinning them once in a while though. I'll have to check out the new album.

I gave it a listen a couple days ago, because I subscribed to emusic for 90 tracks. I wasn't really impressed. Don't think it's my thing really.

Destroy Everything You Touch is a blinder though....

of Ladytrons albums - I like 'Witching Hour' but it's no where as good as Light & Magic or 604 for that matter.

Goldfrapp does the slow, soundtrack-ish, spy, atomospheric stuff brilliantly. She loses me with the more upbeat energetic stuff.

Still, both of these groups are doing much better work than anything Morcheeba did after Big Calm, and if I may say so, their music ages a lot better.

Morcheeba's or Ladytron's? Big Calm is one Morcheeba album that doesn't have a single filler song - it's their crown accomplishment IMO.

You could sort of group Morcheeba with Ladytron and Goldfrapp if you were to make a grouping of non-big-beat "electronic groups" (or what have you). Along with Royksopp, etc. Morcheeba did great up to and including Big Calm. After that they were a big let down (to me).

sadly I agree, but I wouldn't necesarily call them electronica - I've always noted them as trip-hop.

on a side note- they are playing here in DC on the 30th of November - can't wait!

Never heard them but they must have a good sense of music becuase of their name.

For those of you who didn't know they got their name from the second track on Roxy Music's debut album Roxy Music.

So I'm assuming they are fans of Roxy Music...

I'd like to hear them...

OK, I listened to Witching Hour today, and it's my favorite Ladytron album yet! The instrumentation is much more layered and texturous than the previous efforts. A couple of times there I thought I had accidentally started the new Depeche Mode album. I'll be spinning this one often.

You have got to listen to the remix to the track "17".
Simply brilliant, made me buy their latest CD.

through another forum, I kind of know danny from ladytron. I haven't met him yet, as the bastards in LA wouldn't let me into the after party..

Might go to the Fillmore show

My friend met them when they were guest DJing (not performing) at some bar in NYC. He offered to buy Helen and Mira drinks. They gave him a bunch of drink tickets instead.

I only have Witching Hour, but I like them enough to go see them live.

Gonna try to hit up one of the LA shows.

No bump now that Velocifero is out? I downloaded it from eMusic last night and am about halfway through it, so I'm not in much of a position to comment yet. Still don't much care for "Black Cat" (which ended up being the opening track), but the tracks that follow are much more enjoyable, if a bit more repetitive than usual.
