Any info about an artist named Vanity on cd (ex prince gf)

I was wondering if any of her albums from the 80's ever made it to cd? Her main claim to fame was that Vanity was one of Prince's ex girlfriends. She also stared in "Last Dragon"

According to one of those "Where are they now" shows she's Born Again and wants nothing to do with Prince and "that part" of her life. Does Prince own the rights to those albums? Or is it Warner Bros?

Probably Warner Brothers. That's why Prince had such a beef with them, because he ended up not having much say in his own stuff.

I love the awkward wording in the subject header. That is all.

Whatever happened with him re-recording all of his albums so he would own the masters?

Don't forget the smash hit Action Jackson!

I have a lot of Vanity's stuff on vinyl. Didn't know the CDs were out of print. Prince wrote all the songs, but as mentioned above, could be tied up with the warner probs.

One of the songs is played during the stripclub scene in Beverly Hills Cop. "Nasty Girl", the highlight of the Vanity 6 LP. Another song "Drive me Wild" was fun. LP only has 6 songs tho IIRC, like many of the Prince offshoots. (Time, The Family, etc)

I saw Vanity 6 in concert with the Time and Prince. The Time played behind a curtain while they shook it up out front.

Anyway...

Prince seems to have that effect on people.

Or is it Warner Bros?
WB nor Prince had anything to do with "Vanity"'s two albums. They were released on Motown after she was replaced with Apollonia.

And, I can't believe no one's mentioned her jawdropping performance in 52 Pick-Up.

I beg to dick her... err DIFFER. :)

The first LP WAS on Warner. She signed with Motown after she "left" Prince and was replaced.

"Known for its trashy, pornographic image and its sexually exploitive lyrics, Vanity 6 was a short-lived female vocal trio that came out of Prince's funk-rock empire in 1982. Vanity 6 was formed in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, where singer/actress Vanity (whose real name is Denise Matthews) got together with fellow singers Brenda (a native of Boston) and Susan. Backed by the Time, Vanity 6 recorded its self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. in 1982. The single "Nasty Girl" became a major hit, and like Prince's albums, Vanity 6 successfully bridged the gap between R&B/funk and rock/pop/new wave. Vanity 6's first album was also its last; in 1984, Vanity left the group and signed with Motown as a solo artist. Susan and Brenda, meanwhile, hooked up with singer Apollonia (another Prince disciple) and formed a new group called Apollonia 6. That trio recorded a self-titled album for Warner Bros. in 1984 and had a hit with "Sex Shooter," which was heard in Prince's film Purple Rain. Apollonia 6 also turned out to be a one-album act; in 1985, the group broke up. As a solo artist, Vanity didn't get very far commercially; none of her Motown albums were big sellers. And when she became a born-again Christian in the 1990s, Vanity gave up secular music for good. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

 Not nowadays. Too much "Holy Rollering - Praise Jesus". ;)

Anyways, perhaps I should've been clearer. I was referring to her "solo" albums - "Wild Animal" and "Skin On Skin". That's what I thought people were talking about.

And, there was a wave of Canadian "Vanity 6" discs that hit eBay a while back. Don't know if they're still available.
