Surprised this lasted so long. This album is IMHO vastly vastly overrated. It is one of the better ones of 2003 (or whenever it came out) but it dates itself very rapidly and the songwriting and production only match up well on a couple of songs.

Is it a bad pick? Not at all. :)

Finally! A soundtrack. But it's VA. Unless your version doesn't have anything by Desmond Dekker, Toots & the Maytals, etc.

Most of the obvious choices are long gone by now (although I'm surprised the self-titled Violent Femmes album didn't get picked until today), so I'm digging a little deeper now. Sure it has its faults, but personally, I love the album and am hoping others feel the same way. :)

There's only one version of the album as far as I know and it definitely has Dekker, Toots, the Sliders and everyone else.

I don't know if various artist collections are against the rules, I don't think so.

I originally had it as "Jimmy Cliff et al" but thought that might be against the rules. I decided the play it safe and list it as originally credited: 'Jimmy Cliff'.

How about stuff like Rhino's comps? ( shhhh )

Techinally, there's two, as there's a Deluxe Edition that was released within the last couple of years. I got it and it's excellent. There's a second disc loaded with a lot of classic reggae.

I don't think so. People seem to be anti Greatest Hits compilations. I've been racking my mind trying to think of a Soundtrack I would put in the Top 10 but really besides Rushmore, RZA's score for Ghost Dog (Japan import only), or Yann Tiersen's score for Amelie (basically a "best of" from his earlier albums plus new stuff), I couldn't think of any.

Round 8: Cheap Trick - Cheap Trick (1977 debut)

Brilliant. Melodic. Subversive. *Loud*.

Fandango 11-02-05 11:44 AM

Requiem for a Dream OST is quite good.

Numanoid 11-02-05 11:46 AM

Duran Duran - Rio

I kind of had the same idea of 2000+ music being represented, but in going through everyone's picks, I believe all the following came out in 2000 or since:

Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Placebo - Sleeping with Ghosts
White Stripes - Elephant
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
The Postal Service - Give Up
Wilco - Yankee Foxtrot Hotel
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
X - Los Angeles
Green Day - American Idiot
Brian Wilson - SMiLe
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Radiohead - Kid A
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Big L - The Big Picture
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Doves - The Last Broadcast
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
Daft Punk - Discovery
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Madvillian - Madvilliany
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
DJ Shadow - Private Press
Bjork - Vespertine

That's 27 out of a total 256 (8 rounds x 32 players). For a six year period, that's not too bad as far as representation goes.
