A tribute to Heart
As I was driving to work this morning, a Heart song called Barracuda came on the radio. It had this irresistible thumping beat, a sense of urgency, and the brilliant vocals of lead singer Ann Wilson. It immediately brought to mind a whole range of Heart songs that were made way back then, around the mid to late 70's to be exact: Crazy On You, Magic Man etc etc. I thought to myself how wonderful these songs were and how superior they are to what is out there today. I really feel sorry for today's youth who think they are getting "good songs" on the radio. Take me back to the days when music was made by people who loved music, thanks.

Eh....
Heart never really struck me as a particularly original band. Just kind of following the hard rock blues trend. Trying to be a female answer to Led Zeppelin. |
Here I thought there was a tribute album coming out. ;)

Agree with the first part of your post. The 2nd part is complete silliness.

As far as "good" music.. I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but my wife and I had a conversation like this last night. And as I said to her, my music buying, for as much as I love it, has really gone down, simply because the artists/music I like is going away. Sure I can find people I like here and there that are newer, but I don't listen to the radio, and I'm not a club/bar type, so my exposure is limited as is.
And I do like Heart by the way. :) And when they were coming about in the '70's, I probably didn't even exist. |

I couldn't narrow down any music particularly since I love so much of it, but one direction to give an idea is if I were in a band, I'd love to be in a 3 or 4 piece rockabilly band. So anyways, speaking of Heart.. how was their last album? I think the last one I picked up of theirs was "Desire Walks On", and I liked that one. |

this thread is a little strange.
i like heart, just like any other rock fan should, but to refer to their songs as superior...? |

Regardless, I think I got my thoughts across well enough in that post. But then again, maybe that's because they're mine! ;) |
While I'm not a big heart fan, they did have some decent songs from the 1970s. I do like "Crazy on You" quite a bit. The mid-80's stuff is terrible.

I can't even listen to their music from that era. Its sounds so cheesy and generic. Give me "Barracuda" or "Crazy on You" instead. |
It amazes me how many people can threadcrap pretty much on any given topic.
Heart was a super band with a lead singer who could wail with the best of 'em. |
I am from Seattle so I gotta show some love to some of the local music.
Heart is def appreciated. |
Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You are all great songs. I love most of that stuff from that era. But when it gets to "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You", we're talking icepick to the eardrums, anyone else?

Ann's voice was unbelievable. And I like the imagination in their music. Just listen to Magic Man and you'll hear some sounds and arrangements that are unique. They're probably Canada's best ever export music-wise.

Bara-coo-da! Du-du-du-du-du-du-du-dun.
CrAAAAz-ay on YEW! He's a magic man, maw-ma! Those songs are great. Not into much of the rest of their catalog (maybe Alone). |

Which is worse? 1986 Heart or 1986 Starship?
