They are a fun live band. I've seen them more than a few times myself.
Your other statement is pretty much right on the nose, too. I wouldn't say they sold out, so much as they grew up. Johnny Reznik's writing style, and what he was into and about, changed as he got older. That's pretty much all there is to it. Hell, my tastes in music have certainly changed from the time that I was 18, or 25, or 35 and beyond. There's stuff I listen to now that I would have never listened to, or perhaps would even have scoffed at then - and, visa versa too.
Lastly, also wanted to add that they do a killer cover of INXS's "Don't Change". That I know of, it was only ever released in the U.S. as part of the Ace Venture 2 - When Nature Calls soundtrack - but it could be on some import or another, too.

Did anyone else pick up the new album - Let Love In? Overall it is pretty good, but not as great as Dizzy up the Girl or Superstar Car Wash. I have not seen any posts or heard much talk about the album, so maybe it got lost in the shuffle with all of the recent rock releases.

Re: Favorite Goo Goo Dolls songs
oh! I should edit my list to include that. That is actually from "A Boy Named Goo". Has some of the best lyrics in it!
Also should add "Something Bad".
Goo Goo Dolls are one of my very favorite bands! Seen them about 30 times from '89 onwards. I remember seeing them at Cal State Fullerton during the "Hold Me Up" tour in the quad area in front of about 20 people.

I like some of their stuff. Dizzy Up the Girl is a good album and has some big singles (Iris, Slide, Black Balloon). They have some other good singles too.

Their only song I remember vividly was "Here Is Gone". (I didn't know the song title or band was, until recent times).
Here is a cover of "Here Is Gone" recorded /mixed in a very raw unprocessed manner.

I thought they peaked in 1998?
Some of their songs are not bad.
It is kind of shocking to see John Rzeznik now since I always picture the younger version of him

They’re a decent band but I don’t listen to them a ton outside of their hits. Slide, Black Balloon, Come to Me, Iris, Give a Little Bit (cover), Broadway.
