Talk to Brian Wilson on the phone
http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/09/2...z/index.html#2
(CNN) -- Brian Wilson is putting his mouth where his -- and your -- money is. The Beach Boys founder and creator of "Smile" will personally call everybody donating at least $100 to Hurricane Katrina relief through his Web site, www.brianwilson.com. The brainstorm arose several days ago when a visitor to Wilson's message board questioned whether Wilson was truly actively involved in Katrina relief. The fan said he'd make a donation if Wilson called him. Wilson took him up on the offer, and decided to extend it to anyone donating at least $100. "For anyone who sends Jerry [Boyd, who has been handling the charity] a donation of $100.00 or more, I will call you personally and answer a question that you may have, or just say hello or whatever," Wilson said on his Web site. "Also, my wife and I will match the donation. I know that this may not work for all of you, but anything that you can afford will help and I will match it." The challenge will continue until October 1. Wilson is available to call between 7 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Pacific time. |
I think I'll live a perfectly happy life without talking to Brian Wilson on the phone.

...and for everyone who donates over $5000, he'll say something intelligible
:rimshot: |
Well, it's certainly an interesting way to raise money.. Were it someone I was a fan of, it'd be a neater place to put your donation through in that case.
Not that I feel anyone (Brian Wilson included) needs to be accountable in their donation efforts. Why is it anyones business who's donating what? Just because someone isn't out there on TV bragging about it doesn't mean they're not doing anything. |

Can't imagine a lot of people are jumpin' on this one...
|
I think this is wildly cool. If I hadn't alread donated I'd be on this in a heartbeat.
|
Neat idea. Good for him for trying to help.

Nothing like crapping on a thread that describes someone offering to match donations to a hurricane relief effort... and take the time to talk to you on the phone to boot.
Never mind that the guy is/was a creative genius who unfortunately has a history of mental illness. I mean, only nobodies like the Beatles would cite Wilson's "Pet Sounds" as the reason they wrote "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Sure, "Smile" was probably the best album to come out this year, but man, he sure is "crazy"! Don't you guys have some puppies to go kick or something? |

Not his mom. I just find it interesting when people get upset their latest magnum opus thread isn't responded to with amazing insight right away.
|
I applaud Brian Wilson for his offer. I don't think I'll take him up on the offer but I know lots of people that would love to talk with him. Some call themselves Brianistas.
disclosure: I've talked with him after a few shows and spent three hours at his house and his musical efforts are amazing. |
i wonder how much he would charge to come to the mall and record kokomo in that booth at the food court...
j/k love this guy...love his music...good show on his part |
I wonder if I could get him to record my cell phone messsage for me?

I think Brian is a musical genius and sometimes that comes with a price. It's actually a bit of a miracle that he is able to perform in his condition and the completion of SMiLE is an amazing accomplishment let alone taking it on the road. I consider it a blessing that he isn't curled up in a dark room and the effort that he's making to contribute is all the more admirable due to his circumstances. |
I believe I wrote it up on here once. I wonder if a search would yield something.
I agree with your second paragraph. |
