I've always liked the name Vertical Horizon, once I heard it.

Too bad I don't like any of the music.

I remember a punk band from years ago called The Fat Chick From Wilson-Phillips.

Imagine seeing that on a marquee.

Always thought Pink Floyd had a good ring to it as well as U2.

I've always been partial to the psychedelic names:
Pink Floyd
Jefferson Airplane
Grateful Dead

The best offensive name is still The Dead Kennedys. Even better than DADV.

Plus, they absolutely rock!

Also, someone mentioned Echo & the Bunnymen - one of the coolest things about that name (if I remember correctly) is that Echo was the drum machine they used when they started, all the band members are Bunnymen.

I'll add:
Prick
Sisters of Mercy
Sigue Sigue Sputnik
A Tribe Called Quest
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprasy
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine

and even though the effect is lessened by how often you hear it, Nine Inch Nails still has a good sound to it and almost brings a feeling or imagery to mind before you even hear anything.

I'll never get how some people know nothing about the band yet will somehow stumble upon *THAT*.

How does one hear about that joke and yet not find out anything about the band?

Someone woke up grumpy.

Didn't mean to touch a nerve, but I wouldn't say that I "know nothing about the band", and I have several of their CDs. I don't remember exactly when and where I heard the "joke", but it was years ago, and is fairly commonly known by music fans in my area at least.

Sooo, am I right, is that what it means then?

Someone who knows German would be more able to help on this one, but from what I've heard its the initials of a German phrase that translates *roughly* to "no pity for the majority" or something like that.

Anyone know the real phrase/translation?

It is some German slang saying, IIRC. It also does not mean Karl Marx Found Dead Masterbating.
