Songs that Radio Will Probably Remove from Playlists Due to Hurricane

After the Sept 11, 2001 attacks, there were several songs that radio stations removed from their playlists as they thought it would be in bad taste.

Will the hurricane and plight of the Gulf region have the same effect?

These immediately came to mind:

Led Zeppelin - "When the Levee Breaks"

Scorpions - "Rock You Like a Hurricane"

Katrina & The Waves - "Walking on Sunshine"
**

**I find it eerily ironic that a song by a now badly named group is one of the feel-good, make-you-smile, play-in-the-background-of-every-80s-movie-when-the-main-character-is happy songs of the 1980's

Led Zeppelin - "When the Levee Breaks" - One of thier best songs IMO, this will never cease to be played.

Scorpions - "Rock You Like a Hurricane" - This song was still played before the hurricane?

Katrina & The Waves - "Walking on Sunshine -

In related news U of Miami is changing their nickname.

If this is a serious topic, I'd have to say none..

Otherwise, I dunno!

Roachpowder's "New Orleans".

Oh wait, never mind - they never play that on the radio (too bad).

Here are two songs that should be played, from opposite ends of the emotional spectrum:

Biloxi - Jimmy Buffett

Down around biloxi
Pretty girls are swimming in the sea
They all look like sisters in the ocean
Boy will fill his pale with salty water
And the storms will blow from off towards new orleans

The sun shines on biloxi
The air is filled with vapors from the sea
The boy will dig a pool beside the ocean
He sees creatures from his dreams underwater
And the sun will set from off towards new orleans

Stars can see biloxi
Stars can find their faces in the sea
We are walking down beside the ocean
We are splashing naked in the water
And the sky is red from off towards new orleans

Louisiana 1927 - Randy Newman
What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has
done
To this poor crackers land.

I was listening to Tool: Aenima earlier and Katrina immidiately came to mind.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

"I'm Only Happy When it Rains" - Garbage

It's interesting how that Tool song mentions "LA" and how it could now refer to Louisiana.

I guess Stevie Ray Vaughn won't be playing "Flood" at his live shows anymore.

The local radio station has actually been playing "When the Levee Breaks" in it's various versions covered by different bands. After what's happened, the song definitely takes on a enormously stronger emotional meaning.

Not radio, but I'd guess that "A Streetcar Named Marge" will be pulled for awhile from The Simpsons syndicated run for these lyrics:

Long before the Superdome
Where the Saints of football play...
Lived a city that the damned call home
Hear their hellish rondelet...

New Orleans!
Home of pirates, drunks and whores
New Orleans!
Tacky overpriced souvenir stores

If you want to go to hell, you should take a trip
To the Sodom and Gomorrah of the Mississip'

New Orleans!
Stinking, Rotten, vomiting, vile
New Orleans
Putrid, brackish, maggotty, foul

New Orleans!
Crummy, lousy, rancid, and rank
New Orleans

Some of the stations here in Canada have already said they have stopped playing "New Orleans Is Sinking" by the Hip. They plan to add it to the playlist again when things get "back to normal".

You know, I read this thread and I took it as a joke and I had a good chuckle. But then I thought about how people today are so overly sensitive and utterly stupid about stuff like this and I started to shake my head.

Disturbed - Stricken
with the lyric "you come on like a bloodstained hurricane"
Never been a big fan but it actually is a pretty good song.

Haven't heard that in years...
