Elvis Costello tour kicked off in Atlanta last night (I was there)

Drove to Atlanta yesterday, with a lady who never really listened to Elvis. Got a room at the Marriott Marquis downtown on priceline for $65 a night. Thought that was a good deal until I went to buy tickets. Found a scalper who had front row seats (It was at Chastain park) so it was a front row table, 3 ft from the stage with a parking pass a 10 minute walk to the stage for $70 a ticket. This tour beats the spring tour, Emmylou Harris is featured on about 12 songs, including Indoor Fireworks, Heart Shaped Bruise, The Scarlet Tide, and Whats so Funny about Peace Love and Understanding. Her and Elvis also covered Wild Horses and Nazereth's Love Hurts and she sang Red Dirt Girl and Pancho and Lefty solo. It only featured 6 songs from The Delivery Man, Country Darkness, The Delivery Man, Monkey to Man, Heart Shaped Bruise, Needle Time, and The Scarlet Tide. No Bedlam or There's a Story in your Voice. Lots of Songs from his 1st few albums, including Waiting for the End of the World, Mystery Dance, Alison, Why Don't you Love me like you used to, Clubland, Pump it Up, I don't want to go to Chelsea, and Everyday I write the book. The show last almost 2 1/2 hours, nonstop. This is a great concert and if anyone gets the chance to go, go you will have a blast. The lady is now an Elvis fan.

That's an old song written by Boudleaux Bryant, and Harris recorded a duet of it with Gram Parsons for the Grenious Angel album, which was released two years before the Nazareth cover (from Hair of the Dog.

I'll be seeing EC and the Imposters on the 30th.

If I wasn't stuck at work last night I *might* have considered going. What a dream to see those two on stage together. Only problem was it was at Chastain... a place known for non-stop talking and clanking of glasses during a show. Funstan, were people actually paying attention?

To take that a step further, Roy Orbison recorded a version back in the mid-60's. May favorite version, though, is an uptempo one that Jim Capaldi recorded in the mid-70's.

Sounds good. I caught him a couple of times earlier this year and he is one of the few artists left who I consider "must-see" whenever he comes around. The young bands could learn a thing or 2 about how to put on a show from people like Elvis.

To take it a step even further, the Everly Brothers had it on an album that came out in 1960.

I do not know, I was on the front row paying attention. About Love Hurts, I was 7 when I caught my sister getting felt up in a Buick in the driveway, Nazereth's Love Hurts was playing, that is how I remember the song. An experience that traumatic you remember every detail.

Thanks for the setlist.

OMG did you call the police?

I caught Elvis and Emmylou perfroming Love Hurts on Letterman and thought it was great. I was surprised to see them together and didn't know that she was touring with him. That would be a show I'd like to catch.

Just got 5th row orchestra for his symphony appearance in Houston next year.

Queue junior prom scene in Dazed and Confused. That's a hilarious cover, I'd love to hear it. I once saw 10000 Maniacs do Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" which was also a ridculous cover selection that shouldn't have worked but it did.

Is Steve Neive (sp) back with his band? That guy was critical on those first few albums.

I saw Elvis about 8 years ago when he was in the depths of his Burt Bachrach phase and he just needed to cut loose a rock more. It's good to hear he's doing just that.

Can't think of a time Steve Nieve wasn't playing with Elvis except for his cross genre forays. Steve even backs Elvis when he plays without a regular band.
