I've loved Good News For People Who Love Bad News for quite a while, and picked up The Moon and Antartica last week and think I like it even more!

I have tickets to see them Thursday and can't wait.

Anyway, they have several CDs and wanted to see if anyone had opinons on which of their oldest albums are the best, what order to check them out etc. I'm guessing they are very different, given how differet Moon is from Good News.

Lonesome Crowded West is their best album.

Depends on who you ask. A lot of people liked them when Isaac Brock was "more of a drunk" --- definitely get Lonesome Crowded West, and maybe Building Nothing Out of Something. Hold off on Sad Sappy Sucker until you know all their work, it's more of a compilation of rarities for die-hards.

Caught them in DC tonight. WOW! What a fantastic show. I got to a good bit of shows, but that was right up there with the best I've seen. I could probably only rank Pearl Jam (my favorite band for over 10 years) ahead of them, and that's by a narrow margin.

They kicked ass on every song, and there songs are so varied in style it was fresh from start to finish.

They closed with a mindblowing version of "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes."

their live performances are either really awesome or horrifically bad. I, unfortunately, attended one of the really bad ones (pre Good News For People Who Love Bad News). Moon & Antarctica is still my favourite, but if you can find the CD-Single for "Whenver You See Fit", pick it up. It's a duet with the guys from 764-Hero, and the original version of the song is 14 minutes of pure bliss. "Everywhere & His Nasty Parlour Tricks" is a great collection of b-sides. Also check out Isaac Brock's side project "Ugly Casanova". That should keep you busy for awhile :)

Are those worth checking out after the ones you guys reccomended?

i'd say those ones fall into the "fans only" category. they're great (imo), but very rough on the edges. real early stuff. i think their best song ever comes from "long drive"-- dramamine is gorgeous.

Awesome song which they re-did on both Moon and Antarctica (3rd planet) and Good News (The World At Large)...

The version of Dramamine they played last night sounded nothing like 3rd Planet or The World at Large.

Unfortunately, I have yet to meet anyone who has seen one of ther "awesome" perfomances.

Just saw them on SNL tonight. Do these guys actually have a real record contract with the intention of making a monetary profit from some kind of dedicated fan base, with the possibility of reaching new fans by either word of mouth or by the sheer power of their music? Oh, my God...good luck. :lol:

Yeah, they pretty much sucked on SNL. They were MUCH, MUCH better when I saw them live on Thursday. Night and Day difference, even on those two songs.
