To add to the other "news"...supposedly there is going to be a bonus CD with remixes along with the Re-invention DVD. Again, just a rumor.

Saw both of her appearances yesterday and she looked great.

I think most of us lost interest when she stopped being a slut.

Half joking aside, some of her stuff these days is okay, but not enough that I'd buy her albums. Her old stuff is still good, though.

That's what's weird. i would consider her old stuff "gayer" than the new stuff. I mean...come on. I think you look more flaming if you're cruising down the road with Material Girl or Angel blasting out your window than American Life or Impressive Instant.

I'm listening to GHV2, I wonder if those who like Madonna could choose a favorite song? I'll have to answer that later after some thought.

I guess I've never really used the "gayness" of the songs as a barometer of whether or not I like them. Of course, this is coming from a straight guy who has no problem lip-synching to Donna Summer in my car so, whatever. The new stuff is okay, but it's generally kind of boring to me. I know this is probably the least popular statement I could make, but I actually thought Die Another Day has been her best song in years. (Although admittedly I haven't heard all the album tracks from her recent work.)

Forget Orbit or Mirwas (sp). Madge should find some smarts and locate Patrick Leonard, Niles Rogers, or even Jellybean. Slick and smart production over anything showcasing her thin vocals. New (haggish, Kabbalah, sucking Britney) Madge needs to reinvent herself into the older (youthful, slutty, fresh) Madonna.

Madonna 'Hung Up' on new single By Jonathan Cohen

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Madonna has chosen "Hung Up" as the first single from her new album, "Confessions on a Dancefloor."

No release dates have been unveiled for either item, but both are expected in the fall via Warner Bros. Madonna told ABC's "The View" in June that the new album is dominated by dance music and will likely be supported by a tour in 2006.

The set will be the follow-up to 2003's critically maligned album "American Life," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, but posted the lowest sales of any Madonna album to-date (657,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan).

Her official Web site says "Hung Up" was produced by Stuart Price, who previously served as the musical director on Madonna's 2004 Re-Invention tour. That outing will be the subject of a DVD due out near year's end.

Oh sure. Depending on what you mean by "still." I haven't bought anything, other than greatest hits stuff, since "Ray of Light" and I ended up giving that away. Plus, I bought her albums on vinyl when I was a kid, and only the other day, when the local record store was doing a 2 for $25 did I buy "Madonna" and "Ray of Light" again. In retrospect, I should have gotten "True Blue" as well.

She looked so hot on that first album.... That's what brought me in. I'll still "listen" to her stuff when it shuffles on my iPod, but I'm not necessarily buying her new stuff.

Okay, for me, I would partially agree. Like I alluded to, when I first saw "Borderline" as a kid, I couldn't get the hot dancing woman spraying graffitti (sp?) out of mind. I've sort of stuck with her since. Truth be told, I haven't bought anything since "Ray of Light" but I keep tabs on her to see what she's up to. Hated what I heard off "American Life" though.

I would agree with one of the other posts, though "Die Another Day" was kind of cool, IMO.

Yeah, "Like A Virgin" hasn't aged well, and her other 80's stuff is fun in that time capsule way. I wouldn't be caught blasting any of her music out my window, frankly.

I'm going to try and explain it this way. I like pop music. I take a pretty definition of what "pop music" is, and yeah, most of my music skews towards rock, alt country and older R&B, but in terms of pure pop, like in the Spector, Beach Boys tradition (I realize the comparison I make is sacreligious to many rock music purists) who else today is bringing at least something interesting to the pop music mix? Backstreet Boys? Ashlee Simpson? Britney (with the exception of "Toxic" which was cool enough to combine strings and surf guitar)?

"Don't Tell Me" had that cool guitar loop. The "Ray of Light" album brought that techno-y stuff into pop music. "Die Another Day" sounded unlike any other Bond theme. In the narrow area of pop music, she's a bit of an innovator, she continues to push the form, which is why I'll continue to listen, though not necessarily buy (unless it's a greatest hits package). I believe she's under-praised as a musician or musical craftsperson, if you will

There we are, my opinion on Madonna and why I like her. For the record, I've never gotten why gay men liked her so much. I don't get the appeal of a hot hot sexually aggressive woman to men who aren't into women, but whatever. I've asked friends who are gay about it, and haven't gotten a satisfactory answer. Anyone?

It's very simple.
For 2 reasons:

1) She's ALWAYS been surrounded by gay men. One of her brothers is gay. Her mentor was gay. Most (if not all) of her friends when she moved to NYC were gay. She used to dance in gay clubs and would skew her music towards what was playing in those gay clubs. Thus, gay men started paying attention to her music. She also stands up for gay rights and gave money to AIDS research and has done so from the beginning. As a result, you get a gay icon.

2) She's a strong, sexual expressive woman: all things which intimidate straight men and go against the norm of what "women" in general are supposed to be.
