Well at least Brittany and I were impressed. Our first NIN concert..

I saw them at Red Rocks a few nights ago. It was spectacular in almost every way. Two big thumbs up to NIN/Red Rocks staff.

Nine Inch Nails Announce New EP Not the Actual Events, Vinyl Reissue Series

The Fragile being reissued on four LPs, featuring 37 bonus tracks

Nine Inch Nails have announced a new EP. Not the Actual Events will be self-released on December 23 via the NIN website. It’s the follow-up to Hesitation Marks, which arrived back in 2013. Trent Reznor worked with longtime collaborator and “now official bandmate” Atticus Ross on the EP. In a press release, Reznor stated, “It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. “It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

Reznor is also releasing a limited edition 4xLP vinyl version of the 1999 NIN album The Fragile, containing 37 bonus tracks. The Fragile: Deviations 1 will be available on LP only, not digitally.

Reznor said in a press release:

The Fragile occupies a very interesting and intimate place in my heart. I was going through a turbulent time in my life when making it and revisiting it has become a form of therapy for me. As an experiment, I removed all the vocals from the record and found it became a truly changed experience that worked on a different yet compelling level. The Fragile: Deviations 1 represents Atticus and I embellishing the original record with a number of tracks from those sessions we didn’t use before. The result paints a complimentary but different picture we wanted to share.

Reznor has also announced that he and art director John Crawdord are embarking on a reissue project, creating “definitive editions of all the major NIN releases on vinyl.” Broken, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile are now available to pre-order.

Of the reissue series, Reznor said:

“We want to present the catalog as it was intended to be, with no compromises. That means a careful remastering of the audio from the original sources, a painstaking recreation of the artwork, pristine materials, some surprises and an insane attention to detail that you probably won't notice…but it matters to us. No extra bullshit and gimmicks – the 'real' records in their truest form.”

Reznor has stayed plenty busy in the three years since the last NIN album. In 2014, he became Chief Creative Officer at the fledgling streaming service Beats Music. Apple later acquired the platform, and Reznor has since gone on to fill the same role at Apple Music. Also in 2014, he scored the film Gone Girl with Atticus Ross. Their efforts earned them Grammy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Score. They linked up again this year for “Juno,” to celebrate NASA’s mission to Jupiter, then joined forces with Mogwai and Gustavo Santaolalla to score Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change doc Before the Flood. Reznor and Ross also scored Patriot’s Day, the new Mark Wahlberg movie about the Boston Marathon bombings.

NIN also released a live EP shortly after Hesitation Marks came out. In 2015, they put out a vinyl box set called Halo I-IV, as well as a book, Cargo in the Blood, featuring one-of-a-kind paintings.

I'd go in for the Fragile II but I just spent 150$ (shipped) for the Dead or Alive discography set from Amazon UK. I am officially tapped out for a while.

Which ones did you get, Dan?

The Fragile Deviations 1 and Broken.

I still have the first pressing of The Fragile, and some random copy of TDS so I don't need those... yet. My NIN collection is... something.

I'll get Broken and TDS. I was never the biggest fan of The Fragile. Would be nice to have Fixed and Further Down The Spiral too.

New NIN on my b-day. Awesome.

The Fragile CDs already sound great, a remastering would just brickwall them.

Yeah, this. The CDs sound fantastic. The records sound great, too, but a remaster/repress makes sense, given how much people have been paying for used copies of the original pressing.

Oh, and, this is on the nin.com website, too:
QUAKE SOUNDTRACK [1996]
SOUNDTRACK (AND ALL SOUND EFFECTS) DONE BY REZNOR AND NIN ACCOMPLICES. HAUNTING AMBIENT MUSIC THAT EVENTUALLY INFORMED GHOSTS AND REZNOR’S FILM WORK.

WE ARE WORKING ON MAKING THIS AVAILABLE!
I seriously hope this works out. Holy shit.

I have no use for the vinyl sets, so I just got the new EP alone. I would love the Deviations set, but again, have no use for the vinyl.

re: NIИ - Nine Inch Nails - Discussion Thread [part two]

Would have been nice to have a CD offered of the new EP. I don't what a "physical component" is but I'm sure it's not a CD or they would have called it that. Also sucks I can't get Fragile Deviations because I am not into vinyl.

re: NIИ - Nine Inch Nails - Discussion Thread [part two]

I bought:

NTAE physical component
Fragile Deviations

Everything listed on the store comes with a digital download, so you can still buy it (assuming you're OK paying that much), and play it without having to play the vinyl.

Additionally, NTAE will be available on all digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, et al) on Friday, so you don't need to buy the vinyl or physical component for that if you don't want to. It's not clear yet whether the album remasters will be made available on digital platforms or not.

Fragile Deviations will ONLY be available in this package (vinyl + digital download), so if you want to pay for/own that (without pirating), you have to buy this package. It's a limited edition single pressing, if that makes you feel any better.

re: NIИ - Nine Inch Nails - Discussion Thread [part two]

I bought both versions of Not the Actual Events, The Fragile Deviations, and Broken. I already have TDS and The Fragile on vinyl, so I passed on those for now, though I might end up grabbing both down the line if they're still available when I can justify spending some more on myself.

Also already had Before the Flood on preorder and still anticipating anticipating that one as well.

Yeah, there's two people I trust to not brickwall an album: Reznor and Steven Wilson.

re: NIИ - Nine Inch Nails - Discussion Thread [part two]

I thought I saw some posts on Hoffman that stated the new NIN remasters are brickwalled or close to it. I'm happy with how all the original CD's sound.
