Idlewild- Warnings/Promises

What's it going to take to get this fantastic Scottish band to break in the US? Idlewild has never made a bad album, their song writing is intelligent and they have some great hooks. They're also one of the best live acts in the world. What I particularly like about them is their lack of irony, they're just a good rock band sans hip signifiers.

Their new album came out last week in the UK, I'm listening to an import and to my ears it's their best yet. There's not a duff track in the lot. It's more accessible then their past albums. Favorite track: El Capitan which is one of the best songs I've heard this year. If you like good guitar pop, don't miss this one (whenever it's actually released in the US).

Well I must voice my interest in this new album, but I gotta say, I bought 100 Broken Windows and it was a very mediocre album. Some good songs, but some extremely redundant songs as well. They relied far too much on chorus lines for the majority of the album, like Our Lady Peace's Spiritual Machines and many of the chorus lines simply weren't that good. The lyrics were also very dull for the most part.
Still, looking forward to this release.

Warnings / Promises has an August release date. Idlewild wanted it out everywhere on one date, but their label (Capitol Records) decided that summer would be good since their expected to tour the US around that time. I agree, they've never put out a bad album and have a different sound to each album. Hope is Important and Captain sound nothing like The Remote Part and what I'm assuming W/P sounds like. I'm waiting to get it to listen to any song from it. I have heard the first three B-sides from it and those sound good. The single I Understand It will be coming out on May 2nd as well.

Hiro - I've been a fan for years. Thanks for piqueing my interest in regards to there upcoming album.

while its a more mature album,- polished tunes - it's less edgy and punky like the first two albums from them. Some of the UK critics have been kind of mean to this album, I on the other hand think it's great.

NME reported that the band just got US Visas - which would suggest that US playdates are promised for the near future - I hope DC is one of the stops.

Sweet - they were supposed to come through St. Louis a few years ago, but the show was cancelled.

Looking forward to it.

Hey, glasschicken, don't you owe me a case for The Remote Part? :p E-mail me, ya punk.

I love this album, been listening to it for months, and it is definitely more mature with less of an edge than its two predecessors.

Although (not that it matters) it has one of the most awful album covers
I have ever seen.

I don't particularly care for the first two albums, but I have thoroughly enjoyed everything they've put out since. As mentioned above, they do put on a great live show. I drove to Columbus to see them on the last tour, and I doubt there were more than a hundred people there. (To be fair, it was summer, and the Ohio State campus was empty.)

I've been thinking about importing the UK version. $14.95 shipped from CD-WOW is the best I've found so far...

The first time I'd ever heard of them was when they performed "Little Discourage" on Later with Jools Holland. I went out and bought that album, but sadly didn't think much of any of the other songs.

Absolutely love this band. I saw them a couple of years ago at a real small venue when I was at school in Champaign, and W/P does not disappoint. I liked The Remote Part slightly more overall, but I think the new album has a bit less filler too. Can't wait for them to come back to the US, hopefully as a leading act.

That's a great price. Mine was $21.27 shipped from Amazon.co.uk.
