Best Gambling songs
Trying to come up with a good CD to make of the best gambling songs. I have a few already but thought the forum would have some hidden gems.
I also thought it'd be more interesting to make a mellower country/other CD and a rockin one. Rockin Songs- The Clash - The Card Cheat ACDC - The Jack Motorhead - Ace of Spades Mike Ness - Roving Gambler Iron Maiden - Aces High (although not about gambling) The Clash - Three Card Trick Country/Other Sinatra - Luck Be a Lady Tonight Ray Charles - Blackjack Ray Charles - The Cincinnati Kid Dylan - House of the Rising Sun Kenny Rogers - The Gambler Casino Queen - Wilco Buckwheat Zydeco - Five Card Stud |
Cant leave out the Stones ,Tumblin Dice
|
"That Was a Crazy Game of Poker" - O.A.R.
"Who's Got the Action" - Dean Martin |
damn thought i had one...but no
|
my favorite is Sting's "Shape of My Heart"
|
Mel Torme - Games People Play
Nat King Cole - I'm Shooting High and just to be a pain ;) you've reversed Wilco with the song they sing. The rest are listed as band - song. :) |
Bob Seger - Ramblin' Gamblin' Man
|
A couple of corrections for you:
AC/DC's "The Jack" is about V.D., not the card. "House of the Rising Sun" is about a whorehouse. |
The Dragons: "Roll The Dice"
|
Bob Seger - Still The Same
Elvis Presley - Viva Las Vegas |
For after you lose all of your money ;)
Sheryl Crow - Leaving Las Vegas |
"Roll the Bones" - Rush
"Roll of the Dice " - Bruce Springsteen |

The Breakfast - Doughboy Wait for me I want to try my luck You know my currency it’s called a buck Hit me I want to know if it’s my money day In a sense, I never thought too big Cause I’ll never make as much as I bid Hit me anyway, maybe my money day I always wondered who predicts If I can touch the cards with tricks Jonesing the rush I might be sick If I can’t get my doughboy fix I cough up dough and let it roll Some days it smooth, some nights not at all Maybe the weekends are more my money days Big amounts it always looks better Break even or bust it was money well spent-uh Maybe my luck will make it a money day Most days I don’t have a dime If I don’t play I won’t know its time Doughboy fix is in my spine Is lady luck now on my side? I hope each day is a money day You never know how long luck will stay No more bets, as I sit at the table Been here for hours and will do more if I’m able I can’t believe today is my money day Let it ride, the only way to make the most I put it all down, now I'm on the whipping post This is the play to show me my money day Can you believe I won the cash? If I didn’t I'd say dough and crash But now I’m going to throw a bash Spend that money like a doughboy fast I hope each day is a money day You never know how long luck will stay |

Sorry, I wasn't trying to prove you wrong or anything. I think the song is ambiguous enough that the House of the Rising Sun could be either a whore house of a gambling den.

Phil Harris --Darktown Poker Club
It doesn't just mention gambling, it is about a poker game. Bill Jackson was a poor old dub Who joined the Darktown Poker Club But cursed the day he told them he would join His money used to go like it had wings If he yelled queens, someone had kings And each night he would contribute all his coin Then he said Im gonna play em tight tonight He said therell be no bobtail flushes make me bite Cause when I gets in them my hands will be a peach And he played them tight but lost his pile And Bill got peevish after a while... and it continues |
Grateful Dead - Me and My Uncle
|
Bob Dylan - Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts
|
|
Townes van Zandt - Mr. Mudd and Mr Gold, from his album High, Low and in Between.
"Spirit me a game of stud/Stakes unscarred by limitation/Between a man named Gold and a man named Mudd" He also covered Dylan's "Little Willie the Gambler" on Roadsongs, but Mudd and Gold is much the better song. |
Ooh Las Vegas - Gram Parsons
|
how about the "James Bond Theme" by the John Barry Orchestra? imagine Sean Connery's first scene in the movie "Dr. No"...
