Do you have Michigan...or Seven Swans? He has a few other earlier albums out as well, but those two are the most recent.

Michigan has a song about my hometown.

this is hands down the best album out this year...no contest.

He's one of my favorite singers and songwriters. I'm going to see hiim in chicago in September!! He has 4 other cd's, one is experimental instrumental stuff...they are all really good!

Is this the same album mentioned in this already-existing thread?

If so, I have to call repost.

Bump for Cottington, since he apparently doesn't like to search.

Boo. By the way, not many people know this, and neither does his official discography advertise this, but Sufjan has released three Christmas albums that are freakin awesome. Now we know this about Christmas albums - mostly they suck, especially if they're cut by tarts such as Jessica Simpson (her 'Rejoyce' from last year was especially horrendous) and Clay Aiken (lets not even go there). But Sufjans' amazing grasp of the true essence of the holiday, plus his dark sense of humor lead to some very weird song titles. I have all three unreleased albums, and they all rock. Here are the tracklistings:

Sufjan Stevens Christmas Albums Tracklistings

Vol. I Hark! Songs for Christmas

01 Silent Night
02 O Come O Come Emmanuel
03 We're Goin' to the Country!
04 Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming
05 It's Christmas! Let's Be Glad
06 Holy, Holy, etc.
07 Amazing Grace

Vol. II Hark! Songs for Christmas

01 Angels We Have Heard On High
02 Put the Lights on the Tree
03 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
04 I Saw Three Ships
05 Only at Christmas Time
06 Once in David's Royal City
07 Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!
08 What Child Is This Anyway?
09 Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella

Vol. III Ding! Dong! Songs for Christmas

01 O Come, O Come Emmanual
02 Come On! Let's Boogie to the Elf Dance!
03 We Three Kings of Orient Are
04 O Holy Night
05 That Was the Worst Christmas Ever
06 All the King's Horns
07 Ding! Dong!
08 The Friendly Beasts

Again, these are NOT the regular sorts of Xmas albums, really truly unique stuff here, and very thought provoking. Does anyone else have it? What do you think of it?

Also, what are the chart positions for 'Illinoise'. Are any out yet?

I think I'm sold. I downloaded the 2 free songs on Amazon and really loved Casimir Pulaski Day and liked the other song too.

I just bought the album online and can't wait to hear the rest... I think I may save my ears til I get the CD.

Good stuff.

Incredible album.

Track #1, Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, IL, just took the breath out of me.

Which leads me to, I'm pretty mediocre at playing the piano, and i really want to learn this song, although, i'm pretty horrible at figuring out chords, and was wondering if anyone would care to write down the piano chords?

I probably could figure them out myself, but with all those combinations, it would probably take me half a day.

So, pretty please?

I've gotta bump this thread to re-iterate what others have said. I was very recently introduced to Sufjan's music. I picked up Illinois lst night and it's one of the best albums I've ever heard. I haven't been this captivated by an album since the Garden State soundtrack. THIS IS EXCELLENT STUFF.

i too just picked this up after hearing "for the fatherless..." (from Michigan) during Johnny's funeral on last week's THE O.C. ... song totally got to me. I havent got the Michigan CD yet as the store was out, but Illinoise! is AMAZING. I would love to hear a new Sufjan "Ohio" CD. oh, and apparently he had a new cd released on valentines day full of solo stuff. check itunes.

I agree with you chino as I think Andrew Bird's music as I have recently discovered is marvelous. I do like Sufjan Stevens too though (since Michigan) seeing as I own his shirts even but if I were to pick the musicians I would prefer Andrew Bird. I am not comparing them by any means.

I'll add Decemberists - Picaresque to your list thought it may have come out in 2004.

This seems far more interesting than the Sufjan Stevens album.

Suprmallet wonders why every single person he has wanted to chat with on Facebook today has gone offline the moment their names were clicked. It's like a sick game.

So is this any good? What does it compare to?

I loved the Sufjan album.
