Ok - I'll be the first to admit I know zero, zilch nothing about the 'rap wars' and all that stuff. I live happily in my own geek world. I have some vague idea about some dudes from Murder Inc disliking some other dudes from Deathrow or something like that.

See pretty vague.. so no laughing.

Anyway, I've had Eminem on a lot recently and I was wondering about some lyrics to Toy Soldiers and (unrelated I think) Mockingbird.

Toy Soldiers - whats the back story? Sounds like some threats against his kid(s?) and some trash talking in a magazine or something?

Mockingbird - Whats the status with his ex(?) wife? sounds like he's not dissing her too much anymore which I'm pretty sure he did at one point. yet some mention of a habit and a 'noose'.

Anyway - Em is in the category of people I really wanted to dislike, but I end up loving the music and lyrics. Its in a class of its own.

Toy Soldiers - this is Eminem's 'anti-beef' song. it's in response to the escalating situation between 50 cent and Ja Rule, which turned into Eminem (and all of Shady records) vs. Ja Rule/Murder Inc. Ja Rule mentioned Em's daughter's name in a few diss tracks, which is what he is talking about in the song. There was also a beef with Ray Benzino, one of the co-owners of the Source magazine. The magazine went out of their way to get at Em, and a few diss tracks were exchanged...this is the magazine he talks about in the song.

Mockingbird - not really sure what's going on with his ex-wife, only that now he has full custody of his daugher and his niece.
