Aha Shake Heartbreak, by Kings of Leon, anyone?
Did anyone else (besides me and all of my friends) manage to pick this up today? It's 7.99 at Best Buy and Circuit City, and I completely recommend it. In fact, I think it's a better album than their debut, Youth and Young Manhood. I'm going to see them next month, and I'm totally psyched. Everyone talk about their love or hate for Kings of Leon, now!

I picked this up last year as an import. The domestic release deals (like the $7.99 BB price) usually make me regret blowing the money on imports...but Youth & Young Manhood was so good that I really couldn't wait another few months for the U.S. release of the follow up. And the import price for Aha Shake Heartbreak was totally worth it!
Upon first listen, I thought it was total sophomore slump trash...but the songs still stuck in my head after that. Upon the next few listens, I realized that I liked this album for reasons much different than those for the first album. They seem to take a different approach at songwriting (what critics would call "mature") on Aha. On closer listens, the songs on Aha are much more dynamic than those on Youth. There is more of a raw sound on this one than on the previous one.
All in all, a fantastic album by these guys!

I am a little upset that they put the lyrics in the liner notes. For me, part of the appeal was that you could practically never understand what the lead singer was saying. Including the lyrics ruins that...plus, writing good lyrics isn't really the band's strong suit...
Does anyone agree?

I think this album is really great. I really like track six, "The Bucket" --
Cancel the thing that I said I'd do
I don't feel comfortable talking to you
Unless you got the zipper fixed on my shoe
Then I'll be in the lobby drinking for two
This is just one of the best song verses of any album I have heard this year. I love the weird little vocal inflections.
