Need Songs for a Mike Patton Mixtape
I want to make a mixtape of songs that Mike Patton sings on. I am looking for his best tracks from Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Lovage, side projects, etc. I want a sampling from all of his bands.
TIA. |
Mr. Bungle - My Ass is on Fire (gott love that song)
|
FNM-Everything's ruined, on "Angel Dust"
That man has the most versatile voice ever. |
FNM - "Coocoo for Caca" - Sounds like Mike loses his mind a couple of times on this song.
FNM - "Ugly In The Morning" - It sounds like he's shoving the microphone down his throat near the end. |
FNM- "Last Cup of Sorrow"
FNM- "Caralho Voador" (Patton adapts a Portuguese persona...gotta dig it) FNM- "King for a Day" FNM- "Gentle Art of Making Enemies" ("Don't you look so surprised...happy birthday, f**ker") FNM- "Land of Sunshine" Heck, just buy all of FNM's Patton-era CDs. I'm a huge FNM fan, but I've never heard Patton's other non-FNM stuff. I'd be keen to hear some non-FNM recommendations in this thread. |
Theres an EP by The Dillinger Escape Plan called "Irony Is A Dead Scene" that Patton does all the vocals on. Its absolutely insane, like a more aggro Mr. Bungle (less silly, but lots of quick time changes and style leaps). It also has a cover of Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy". Anything from that would be good (its only 4 songs long).
Tomahawk's "Rape This Day" is a must Mr. Bungle's "Love Is A Fist" or "Goodbye Sober Day" Sparks with Faith No More "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us" Some of my favorite Faith No More songs: "Caffeine", "Jizzlobber", "Last Cup of Sorrow", "A Small Victory", "King For A Day". That should give you a nice combo of melodic songs, and spazzed-out insane songs. The above choices are all great as well. Theres so many more, but you have to stop somewhere |

Some that haven't been mentioned yet FNM - Stripsearch FNM - Be aggressive FNM - Midlife Crisis Tomahawk - God hates a coward Tomahawk - 101 North Bungle - Stubb (A dubb) Bungle - Squeeze me macaroni {silly, but funny} Bungle - None of them knew Bungle - Retrovertigo |
Fantomas - worst crap I have heard and I have told Lombardo that personally.
Didn't tell Buzz - he could squash me. |
FNM - Zombie Eaters, Easy, Caffeine, This Guys In Love With You, Everythings Ruined, Digging The Grave, Last Cup Of Sorrow, Ashes To Ashes,
Bungle - Sweet Charity, Retrovertigo |

Must... have.... |
I'll steer clear of the Faith No More and second the recommendation for The Dillinger Escape Plan E.P. (it's great) and also suggest that you pick up all 3 Mr. Bungle releases. Ditto to both Tomahawk CDs. All of that material is great, a mix tape won't even begin to scratch the surface. If you're a Patton fan, you should dig most of it... Although Bungle (specifically the first two) and The DEP E.P. might be a little too "extreme" for some. On the Fantomas... It's true that the first release and Delirium Cordia aren't the kind of music (VERY experimental, to say the least) that you can use for a compilation but dismissing The Director's Cut CD and lumping it in with the other two is foolish. THAT album has some amazing stuff on it... It's a movie soundtrack cover album and has some great versions of themes from Rosemary's Baby, Experiment In Terror, The Omen, Charade, The Godfather, etc.

there's also a cd he released of some prank calls he made. I've heard them on the internet. some are damn funny

He has a new collaboration with the X-Ecutioners coming out Febuary 8th (pushed back the day it was released...) Few good singing songs on there, especially "L.O.L. (Losers on Line)". Last Novembers collab with Kaada has some more experimental singing by Patton.

Faith No More - Evidence
Faith No More - Epic Faith No More - Easy Faith No More - She Loves Me Not Mr. Bungle - Vanity Fair Mr. Bungle - Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz |
Some good lesser known tracks...
The Ballad of Hank McCain - w/ John Zorn Secrets for Sale - w/Kid 606 I am the Dead & Innocent Eye Crystal See - W/Eyvind Kang Lookaway, Mine, The Waste, Procura O Cara - W/Sepultura Patton did the track "Music of the Night" on the Great Phone Calls CD. The rest of the calls are mostly Neil Hamburger/Greg Turkington. And if you look on the assorted P2P services you'll probably be able to find plenty of good live cover songs. Some good ones are: What the World Needs Now Tower of Strength Metti Una Cera a Cena The Stroke Simply Beautiful Slayer reign in Blood Medley |
Thanks for all the good ideas. BTW, I have nearly all of Patton's proper band recordings (FNM, Tomahawk, Bungle, Lovage, etc.). I am really looking for ideas on which songs I should put on a "best of" mixtape. I could easily make 5 discs of Patton material but I'm trying to do one disc of the "best of the best" if you will. I will pick up that Dillinger's Escape Plan though. Sounds good.

"R-evolution 23 (full moon) mix" "sundown mix" "sundown instrumental" "R-evolution 23 edit" |
No love for Lovage? I'll go ahead and suggest a song: "Anger Management"
I fully admit that the songs of his that I've heard puts barely a dent in his catalog, but I thought his voice was perfect for that song. |

The only non FNM Patton I ever heard was the first Bungle disc. What is the other stuff like? Similar?
