"So I got the new Fugees album, and I looked it up on Metacritic."
"Yeah, what was the score?"
"It was the new Fugees album, I told you I looked it up on Metacritic"
"Right, but what was the score"?
"The new Fugees album..."

"Who's on First?" all over again.

First thing I usually think of nowadays whenever I read a story about her.

I remember there was going to be a Fugees reunion on 2006, but LH was having issues or something again. A damn shame, they put out two classic albums collectively and The Miseducation is a classic in its own right.

Don't forget Wyclef's The Carnival. It's not a classic but it's pretty close. I love that album. The skits still make me laugh as well.

Every one's entitled to their own opinion, especially when it comes to music, where taste is so personal. But Miseducation was widely received as an instant classic. Heck, Time Magazine proclaimed it the greatest hip-hop album of all time the week it came out and picked it as the Album of the Year (as did most publications). Rolling Stone lists it at #312 on their 500 greatest album rankings; Blender ranked it #75 all-time. It was the first hip-hop or rap album to win the top prize at the Grammys (though I still oppose them giving her the "Best New Artist" award, two years after she had been a contender in the Best Album catagory for The Score). Look, none of these things will make everyone like her music, but to call her a "hack", well let's just call that "miseducated".
Just because some magazine proclaims its greatness doesnt make it so.

"I'm a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me," she said. "I sold 50 million units ... Now I'm up here paying a tax debt. If that's not likened to slavery, I don't know what is."

No Lauryn, you sure don't. I hate paying taxes as well, but I don't pull the old Slave card.

Perhaps not, but by any objective measure (album sales, critical acclaim, industry awards) it was a spectacular, important album.

Re: Whatever happened to Lauryn Hill?

Maybe if she'd have let white people buy her album, she'd have sold more.

Some magazine. You don't know what you are talking about so just stop.

I forgot I'm on dvdtalk since she isn't some old fogey, dusty rock star than it's not any good.

Going on tour for the 25th Anniversary of Miseducation. Co-headlining with the Fugees! Man, I'd love to see this show.
