Still Reigning DVD Vocals/Bass Guitar Guitar Drums Tom Araya Jeff Hanneman Kerry King Dave Lombardo Date City Venue Country July 11th 2004 Augusta The Civic Center USA Released Copies Sold Record Company Highest Chart Entry US: October 26th 2004 Europe: November 1st 2004 N/A american visuals US: N/A - UK: N/A Tracklist Facts about this DVD: The disc features, for the first time ever, the original Slayer lineup - Tom Araya (vocals, bass), guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo, who permanently rejoined the band in 2003 - performing an entire concert live. The cornerstone of the DVD will be the 1986, 28-minute classic album "Reign In Blood", performed in its entirety. During the final 45-seconds of the song "Raining Blood", "blood rains from the heavens," completely drenching the band, their instruments, and the stage. Not to mention the fact that even though all of the officially live Slayer product has great, raw, loud production, THIS is the best sounding live Slayer yet!!!

Awesome DVD! Great picture and sound. Reigning Blood is classic!

I picked it up last week. I love it, though I haven't watched all of the extra songs yet.

SLAYER!!!!
|
watched this last night, they really did a good job with it....every true metal head should see it at least once....maybe twice really loud.
|
It's next on my Netflix list. Just returned Curious Buddies [which definitely caters to a different demographic.]
The one thing that I found interesting is that it's only in DD 2.0? Is that correct? That seems somewhat odd/lacking, especially if it's a new master/recent concert. Regardless, RIB is probably one of my top 3 quintessential hardcore/metal albums, so I'm looking forward to this. And yes, it will be loud. |
No, it's in 5.1. I never listen to those 5.1 mixes for music. Don't like how they do the separation. I like the louder, better, 2.0 mixes.

Crap, I forgot this came out. I gotta buy this.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. When I'm watching concert dvds I always switch to 2.0 because it sounds tons better. |
This slipped under my radar... Der...
Question though, transfer... Full frame or letterboxed? I read one review at Amazon that says this one (unlike War at The Warfield) is NON-anamorphic letterboxed. If so, I'm getting a little tired of bands releasing letterboxed concert footage with no 16X9 enhancement. What's the skinny on the transfer kids? Much obliged. |

I actually have not watched many concert dvd's, so I have no educated opinion on the 5.1 vs 2.0 debate. And of course it depends on the mix, but you're right, if the separation sounds artificial, 5.1 is no benefit.
I should be getting this today or tomorrow from netflix, so if no one else answers, I'll come back and let you know what I found out. |
I like it alot more that the warfield dvd.
As long as the quality is reasonable on a concert dvd I find it's worth it. |

Someone beat me to it :)
Oh well, you're welcome. Not even is it just letterboxed, the letterboxing is not symmetrical [that is, the top black bar appears to be bigger than the bottom one]. Slightly distracting. I cheated, however. Since it's non-anamorphic, I just turned the tv on non-480p input, and set my TV to 'Auto', which expands the image in all directions to fill the screen, without messing with the proportions. I've tried it on both 5.1 and 2.0 sound, the 5.1 mix isn't bad, the 2.0 seems to sound a little bass-ier. |

Araya screwed up the lyrics on Altar Of Sacrifice! He actually missed nearly half an entire verse!
