Another example of a musical artist that 'doesn't get it'. Live hard, die harder and definately reap what has been sown. I don't have too much sympathy for someone who sets this type of example.
Now, if only eminem would OD....

He was truly talented and his personality was....entertaining, to say the least.
Although the Wu can never be the same without him, I hope his passing inspires them to do some great work together anyway.
He made me laugh and smile and admire the 'no father to his style' style. RIP Russell.

I remember years ago when Kurt Loder was doing a story about him on MTV. You know how in an article the author will mention the full name, and then when repeating the name it will just be the last name? It was kind of funny hearing Loder saying in all seriousness "if Bastard makes it through the new year, Bastard hopes to have a solo album out."
RIP

from USA Today:
His troubles began earlier. He was convicted of assault in 1993 and was shot in 1994. In 1997, he was arrested for failing to pay child support for his three children with wife Icelene Jones. He pleaded guilty to assaulting her in 1998. Two months later he was shot during a robbery at his home. The same year, he was arrested for stealing sneakers. In 1999, he faced several traffic arrests, including one in L.A. that led to him being one of the first people charged under a state law against felons wearing bulletproof vests. More arrests followed, including one for crack possession, for which he was placed on probation and spent a year in rehab.
ODB eventually walked away from the facility and spent two months as a fugitive. He then spent nearly three years in prison before being transferred to a psychiatric hospital, where he was released in May. The rapper was trying to resurrect his career when he died.

ODB, Dirt McGirt, Osirus, Joe Bannanas, Dirt Dog, and Big Baby Jesus, you will be missed.

His flaws as a person have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not we should mourn the death of him as a valuable artist.

The good is oft interred with their bones."

Anyway, here's a great verse from Return to the 36 Chambers (I'll block it out cuz it's pretty wild)

No shock there.
According to a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office, ODB died "as a result of intoxication by the combined effects of cocaine and Tramadol, a prescription painkiller, but not a narcotic." The overdose was ruled accidental.

Wow, threadcrapping about a dead guy. Some mature people in here.
Admittedly, the autopsy results won't win "Biggest Surprise of 2004." It's a shame, too - ODB may not have exactly been a brilliant wordsmith, but in a crew like Wu-Tang Clan, with so many straight-faced emcees, someone had to bring the energy. Or, to put it in SAT terms:
Old Dirty Bastard:Wu Tang Clan::Flava Flav:Public Enemy
RIP
