SACD or DVD-A?

I would think this has been asked before, but doing a Search on the subject using these keywords gave me many many results.

I'm wondering if there's a big difference between SACD and DVD-A. Is one better than the other? I've noticed, at least in Canada, there arent too many systems that play SACD. But most DVD players play DVD-A (including mine) so I'm hoping there's no difference, or that DVD-A is better.

And this all due to the re-release of Nine Inch Nails' 'The Downward Spiral' in SACD and DVD-A formats. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I want to experience it in glorious 5.1, goddammit!!!!!

You can Google "SACD DVD-A" for lots of results.

I prefer SACD. Just buy a player that can play both.

You need a player that can play both... You'll be able to spin that NIN DVD-A in your standard player but you're not going to hear the MLP Hi-Res tracks without a player that allows it... All DVD players will play a DVD-A, but you're not hearing that Hi-Res stuff without a DVD-A player.

Personally, I prefer DVD-A (video based extras).

If you use SACD as the search word and select the "titles" radio button, restricting the search to Music Talk there are just 25 hits, the first of which after yours is:

DVD-A and SACD - tech questions + review / shopping sites
