Today's CDs / Listening Pile (10-25-04 and more...)

The Clash - London Calling (no, not the expanded version)
Guster - Lost and Gone Forever
Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe
New Pornographers - Electric Version
Bruce Springtsteen and the E Street Band - Live in New York City
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense SE

Question: What's the last concert you went to?

Answer: Actually, the question is just a gratuitous way for me to mention that I saw the Pixies last week. Was never a big Pixies fan (definitely of the "Here Comes Your Man"/"Velouria"/a few others school), but the concert was great. Newfound appreciation for the band I wish I appreciated more to begin with. Lots of fun.

Juno - "A Future Lived in Past Tense"
Fela Kuti - "Zombie"
American Music Club - "Love Songs for Patriots"
Ted Leo - "Shake the Sheets"
Channels - "Open" EP

Q of the D:
I think the last show I went to was a Seam reunion show in January. I have more or less given up on going to shows, as I can no longer tolerate the smoky clubs, terrible opening bands, and standing in one place by myself because my show-going friends have all moved to other states. I used to go to a few shows a week, but I just don't have it in me these days.

I still love music and buy tons of albums, though.

Paul Van Dyk - Out There and Back
Live - Throwing Copper
Bjork - Greatest Hits
Jonatha Brooke - Plumb

Nothing really unknown or anything.

Q of the D:
Last concert was Sarah McLachlan in August. Great show. Last time I saw her was at Lilith Fair. I didn't like the arena she played in, it was much to large for her. But she put on a heck of a show.

Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti 2, the Doldrums
the Futureheads, the Futureheads

Dizzee Rascal, Showtime

QotD: I went to CMJ last week and saw a lot of concerts...the last of which was Diplo. I was gonna go see Mouse on Mars and Junior Boys last Thursday but I couldn't because of schoolwork and the cost of
this purse for my girlfriend.

Interpol - Antics
Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land
Talib Kweli - Beautiful Struggle
The Strokes - Room on Fire

QotD: Probably the Anger Management Tour a few years ago. Xzibit, Ludacris, X-cutioners, Papa Roach and headlined by Eminem. Awesome concert.

Social Distortion - Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll

Question: Been so long I don't even know. The only thing that comes to mind is Nickel Creek and that was just over a year ago!

Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
Leonard Cohen - New Skin for the Old Ceremony

QotD answer:
Bob Dylan and the Band a couple months ago. I still hear how him and his band played The Ballad of Hollis Brown and Tonight I'll Be Stayin' Here in my head. Great show.

Calexico - Spoke

The last couple of days:
The Corrs - Forgiven Not Forgotten
The Corrs - Live
Megadeth - The System Has Failed
U2 - The Joshua Tree
Jet - Get Born

QOTD: The Corrs, during the summer. Since the show, I've hardly listened to anything else except The Corrs. That'll change a little bit tomorrow when I pick up the new Donnas record.

North Mississippi Allstars: Hill Country Revue
Mos Def: The New Danger
Pavement: Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (LA's Desert Origins)
The Gourds: Blood of the Ram
Green Day: American Idiot
Elf Power: Walking with the Beggar Boys
Elliott Smith: from a basement on the hill
The Slip: Live at Lupo's

AOTD: Bright Eyes/Jim James of My Morning Jacket/M. Ward...three men with acoustic guitars and a guy on pedal steel. Pretty good show. Jim James was incredible. Bright Eyes' attitude got a bit annoying but overall I liked it. Before that, I went to see the ACL Festival.

By the way, I like Pavement's expanded CR, CR even better than Luxe & Reduxe.

Jars of Clay - If I Left the Zoo
Pulp - This Is Hardcore
Sharlock Poems - The Movement
Elvis Costello - North
John Wesley Harding - Adam's Apple

QotD: The Asylum Street Spankers about a week and a half ago. Because my cousin's girlfriend had to work very early the following morning, we left after the first set. Still, it was an excellent show. They put on the best live show that I've ever seen. Definitely check them out if you get the opportunity.

I'm actually not a huge Pavement fan (I listen to S&E occasionally, definitely not a lot), but would like to check out CR,CR sometime (or at least the expanded version thereof; I'm pretty sure I've heard the original before).

I'm listening to a lot of XM radio this week in my sweet sweet Cadillac rental car.

Otherwise, I'm also listening to a buncha mp3s on my portable player, and I also got the following in a pilgramage to Parasol Monday:

The Arcade Fire - "Funeral"
Matador at 15
Viva Voce - "The Heat Can Melt Your Brain"
Ted Leo - "Shake the Sheets"
Rogue Wave - "Out of the Shadow"
Jason Anderson - "New England"

AoD
The last show I went to was the Decemberists a few weeks back. Very good show; they were better in person than I was expecting.

Dogs Die in Hot Cars - crap name for a band, but very good album.
James - 'Pleased to Meet You'
Dandy Warhols - 'The Last High' (single)
Vangelis - 'Heaven and Hell'

QOD:
Supergrass - awesome show, however the nitwit next to me was beyond annoying. drunk redneck... Had tix to both Hope of the States and The Killers, but didn't go. (I should have gone to the Killers show... ).
