PJ Harvey- she screams, she soothes, she growls, she croons- often in the same song.
Bjork- Still worth listening to...although I find that her vocals have become increasingly mannered, in that she's got that "scampering howl" (for lack of a better description) that she uses on just about every song. Tom Waits- it ain't pretty, but the amount of drama/emotion he wrings out of those raggedy pipes is awesome. Keith Richards- love his solo stuff as well as his turns at the mic wif the Stones. That weezy, whiskey-soaked voice provides a nice contrast to Mick. |

Voice is the main reason I listen to the artists I do listen to, unless I'm listening to jazz or classical. Second is the music. I don't really give a crap about lyrics. Most lyrics suck, 8th grade poetry at best :D. I can sing along to a song a 100 times and not have a clue what the song is actually saying. It's all about the way it's sung and played to me.
