This promo just came in the mail. I've only listened to the first 3 and a half tracks so I'll post my full impression later. So far the second track, "Let's Get Lost," is really fucking gorgeous and the third, "Pretty (Ugly Before)" (released on a 7" last year), is a marked improvement over the rather thin/unrealized sound of the original cut. "Coast to Coast" is pretty standard fare and I forgot how it sounds as soon as the track turned over.

As opposed to the new direction (or rather the old lo-fi direction) suggested by the "Pretty (Ugly Before)" single, most of the production here is akin to XO's polished surface. I just listened to the new version of "A Distorted Reality is Now a Necessity to be Free", the b-side to the previously mentioned 7", and even that resembles George Harrison as produced by Phil Spector. (Whether or not that's a good thing, I have yet to determine.)

I've heard "A Distorted Reality is Now a Necessity to be Free" and "Twilight" and they both sound amazing. I cant wait to hear the entire thing.

I've had this album for a little while now and it's as good as anything he's ever done

I've also had this album. I'll be the first in line to buy it on release day. I love Elliot Smith, RIP.

Downloaded this whole CD off iTunes. Though there are certain moments that stand out as heart tugging and prophetic, I find this to be a pretty substandard effort and a little hard to listen to because it feels incomplete. Figure 8 definitely had better tunes and though Elliott was a great guitarist, his drumming is pretty bad. Fond Farewell will definitely be the most mentioned song. I know it's posthumous but it's pretty hard to listen too without just getting depressed. Maybe it'll take some time to sink in.

This is a great album.

It is much more upbeat than I had anticipated.

Check it out if you like his other work.

I felt so good today sitting in my car during lunch today listening to the last new material from Elliot Smith. It's bittersweet, but for some reason I just felt happy.

RIP Elliot and Thanks.

Doesn't feel as good today seeing that my car (and my new Elliot Smith CD) were stolen. :(
