No official word from Sony about the tracklist though.

FrozenMetalHead 09-23-04 07:42 AM

I like the songs chosen. Missed one or two (Long Road) that could have been included, but after seeing the Nirvana and Guns N Roses greatest hits that have come out, this is pretty on the mark. Here's hoping for a limited edition bonus disk.

I'm not sure if I like the actual tracklisting though. I guess I would have preferred it to be either all chronological, or if it was going to be separated loosely by loud / soft, then maybe a nonchronological mix would have been better.

glasschicken 09-23-04 07:58 AM

Yeah, it looks like their doing a Lost Dogs thing with rockers on one disc and mellow on another disc. I would have liked all chronological or all mixed. Eh, I'm just glad State of Love And Trust, Breath, Crazy Mary and I Got Id are on it. All they need to do now is remaster it and I'm sold. (Pssh, I'm already sold.)

Meatpants 09-23-04 09:02 AM

What is the point of this, other than Sony squeezing a few more bucks out of PJ before they leave?

Rypro 525 09-23-04 09:25 AM

surprised a bit that they put last kiss on there, but no "yellow ledbetter"

Unfortunately, Chart-wise...

Last kiss was there greatest hit.

The Antipodean 09-23-04 11:38 AM

Not bad at all. I havent bought a studio album since their third one so I'll pick this up.

mkdevo 09-23-04 11:42 AM

i'll pick this up for the sake of being a completist, but i'll probably never listen to it..

Ted The Bug 09-23-04 11:52 AM

Wow, I'm really impressed with that track list. Nothingman is one of my favorite PJ songs, yet I wouldn't have expected it on there.

Kudos for including b-sides and soundtrack songs as well.

sounds pretty thorough for a standard greatest hits disc....i'll most definately purchase it

Hollowgen 09-23-04 10:53 PM

i love pearl jam

I agree; as someone who tuned out of PJ in the mid-to-late-90s, this is a pretty good collection to hear the stuff I miss and get some of their "better" stuff from their later albums. Nice collection.

AndyCapps 09-24-04 02:45 PM

They should've just done a re-release of Ten.

Joem 09-24-04 05:01 PM

I'll be getting this at some point, mainly because my Ten cd is scratched to heck. I stopped listening to PJ after Vitology for the most part (Specifically, I stopped listening after I got ID), and it says something to me that 2/3's of the tracks (by my count) are off of the first 3 cd's they released. Doesn't look like I missed much.

Rivero 09-24-04 08:25 PM

Should've had Present Tense. Best song from what is probably their best album.

You would be wrong ;)

I'm just glad there aren't any unreleased tracks on this so I don't have to buy it. Since I already have all their albums, there is really no need.

More than agree

Pretty pointless for most fans. I mean, no unreleased song or anything to make this a worthwhile purchase to those that have all the albums? The only thing that MAYBE qualifies is Breath, but it's a marginally good song from an incredible soundtrack that most of us PJ fans probably have anyway.

sinister 09-25-04 11:57 PM

Ten wasn't even close to being their best stuff. binaural was even better than ten. Ten was too "commercial".

Exactly.

Greatest Hits ...

Kerborus 09-26-04 10:07 AM

I love Pearl Jam, but I too see this as a money scheme. In the era of MP3's and burned CD's I've made this disc on my playlist on winamp, and burned it to CD. Why would I pay for it??

Unless there is material unavailable before now, or a bonus booklet or DVD is included, it has no value to the average Joe.

Cornholio 09-26-04 11:56 AM

i forgot about pearl jam i just relized i have a few of there releases just sitting there. its weird how you can just forget about a great band like that. im picking this up.

No, it has a ton of value to Average Joe, because Average Joe hasn't paid attention to anything they've done since Ten.

It has no value to Average Pearl Jam Fan, because Average Pearl Jam Fan should have everything on it already.
