Frou Frou thoughts???
I'm absolutely obsessed with "Let Go" on the Garden State soundtrack. That being said, what is the band Frou Frou like? Is that song a good indicator of their style?
I know the simplistic answer is to go download some of their songs, but I'm not really into downloading music (I picked up too much spyware on another computer and pretty much crashed it, so I try to avoid that stuff now). Any thoughts? |
I've only heard two songs of theirs: Hear Me Out and Psychobabble. Both of them are excellent and you should check them out if possible. As far as I know they only have one album out, which I'll probably be picking up soon. I'll have to check out that Garden State soundtrack as well.

Played a couple of songs on my radio show last week. Liked it.
You could always check out http://www.froufrou.net and listen to some tracks while checking out their site.. |
It's a great album if you like that song. If you are obsessed with Let Go, then let go of $15 and pick up the album. You won't be disappointed.

The album is good, but you probably will be seeking back to Let Go. I find that it's the catchiest song off the cd.

It's actually not really a band. It's UK singer Imogen Heap collaborating with producer Guy Sigsworth. Heap had a solo album out in 1998 titled "I Megaphone" (an anagram of her name) that's simply fantastic. It's been OOP for some time in the US, although, I believe the Import is still available. I've had the Frou Frou album for about 2 years, so it's nice to see her ethereal voice getting some attention due to Garden State. There's also a great Frou Frou B-side called "Close Up" that's worth finding for those interested.

If you are looking for an album full of Let Gos you'll be disappointed. I recently got it and the other songs on the album are much more poppy and don't have the edge that Let Go have. It isn't bad though, just a slight disappointment. The vocals are very solid though.

I kept seeing that Gilmore Girls commercial. I ignored the commercial content. But the song stuck in my head.
I only caught a fragment of lyric... what are you doing? We don't have time for this Well, being a GoogleMeister I was able to bring up the song as Frou Frou - Shh --------------------------- Most successful synth/chill groups have used human instruments to counter the cold synth background. This is where I think Frou Frou fails. They use a heavily processed vocal in front of cold synths. It seems to lack a passion. Zero 7, Massive Attack and Morcheeba have all added very warm vocals. Frou Frou reminds me a little like a harder edged Air. Electronic music always seems to peak when it is presented with an organic sound. Mouse on Mars is a very good example. Their least memorable pieces are those that lack a human feel. This could be a reason that they have abandoned the 100% electronic sound and have gone for a more mixed approach. Another good example is Plaid, who have always made their sounds human by using a more Jazz approach (like Zero 7). |
