Unreleased Tracks Bolster Jackson Box Set




More than a dozen previously unreleased tracks plus a host of rarities will be found on the career-spanning Michael Jackson box set, "The Ultimate Collection." Due Nov. 16 via Epic and executive-produced by Jackson, the set features 57 audio tracks spread over four discs plus a DVD with a 1992 concert from Bucharest, Romania, that was originally broadcast on HBO.

Making their debut on "The Ultimate Collection" will be demo recordings of the previously unreleased songs "Scared of the Moon," "Cheater" and "Sunset Driver," plus demos of the No. 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," the title track to 1991's "Dangerous" and "Shake a Body," an early version of the Jacksons' 1978 No. 3 R&B smash "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)."

Jackson has also dusted off his solo demo of "We Are the World," a No. 1 hit recorded by the all-star gathering USA For Africa as a benefit for African famine relief. In addition, five previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1994 and 2004 can be found on disc four: "Fall Again," "In the Back," "Beautiful Girl," "The Way You Love Me" and "We've Had Enough."

Other rarities include the Diana Ross duet "Ease on Down the Road" from "The Wiz," a song written for the out-of-print "The E.T. Storybook" titled "Someone in the Dark," "We Are Here To Change the World" from the 1986 IMAX 3-D film "Captain Eo," an edit of the Teddy Riley collaboration "Someone Put Your Hand Out" from a Pepsi-sponsored promo cassette and the soundtrack collaborations "Childhood" (from "Free Willy 2") and "On the Line" (from "Get on the Bus").

Rounding out the box will be Jackson's biggest hits, dating back to such Jackson 5 classics as "I Want You Back" and "I'll Be There" through to solo smashes like "Thriller," "Beat It," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Black or White" and "You Are Not Alone."

Journalist Nelson George has penned liner notes for a 64-page booklet featuring rare photos and a discography.

As for the DVD, it chronicles a Sept. 19, 1992, show as part of the tour in support of that year's "Dangerous" release. Beyond album tracks like "Jam," "Will You Be There" and "Black or White," the performance includes "Man in the Mirror," "Beat It," "Human Nature," "Smooth Criminal" and a medley of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" and "The Love You Save."

My only question is: Where the hell is Human Nature??? You have 4 discs worth of space and you leave off one of his most well known songs. Silliness. Would also like to have seen Torture (from the Jackson's Victory album) on here. Oh well, at least it has Ben.

glad they found enough room for "Blood On the Dancefloor", "You Rock My World" and the "rare" duet with Diana Ross from the Wiz [which could be found on the soundtrack in stores...] -rolleyes-

this would've been a must-have had they thrown in Captain EO on DVD or his collaborations with Freddie Mercury. as it is, the only thing that really catches my attention is the 12" remix of "You Can't Win" from the Wiz [which REALLY is rare].

It also seems that these discs seem kind of short. Disc 2 has 11 tracks and Disc 3 has only 14. If this is the true tracklist then that is really weak. Box sets that have unused room on them are just stupid.

Anyone know if the concert DVD will be remixed into 5.1?

Guess he needs more dough to finance his legal troubles and to pay off his tab at that shopping mall in Las Vegas.

Seeing as this appears on HIStory Disc 2 as well, it hardly seems like a rarity.

Yeah, as much as I like the idea of the ground this thing covers, there are still quite a few notable omissions.

Say, Say, Say (I know it's from Paul's album, but they could've got the rights)

Scream (duet with Janet)

Human Nature (as previously mentioned)

Rockin' Robin (from the Motown era)

And not really omissions, but singles that only appear in the 'Live' part of the set.

1. I remember seeing a video of MJ's a long long time ago where i think most of it was in claymation and i remember one part where hes flying a small plane in it as well. And i dont remember the song, but i remember something like this "Just stop dogging me around! Hee hee!!!!" Anyone know that song?

Whether you like the song or not, it's still a number one song featuring Michael. I mean, if he put frickin' "Childhood" on there...

Isn't this like his 4th greatest hits within 10 years and with the same songs?
Those other songs that were left off will no doubt be in the next hits set.

One of my favorite Jackson tunes ever, was from "captain Eo", and the lyrics were something like, "that's just another part of me". I love that track, please tell me that was the one that was included. If so, I'm definetly there, if not, I;ll probably buy this anyway, and sell "HIStory". Jackson is one wacko, but unlike Janet, actually had a good voice you could listen to. Definetly the most talented Jackson, but also definetly the most screwed up Jackson(and that's saying alot).

The song you're referring to is "Another Part of Me" and it can be found on the "Bad" album.
