Music like Daft Punk "Da Funk" or Irreversible Sndtrk???

Question is, is there any music out there with that dark electronica instrumental sound like Daft Punk's "Da Funk", or especially Thomas Bangalter's Irreversible score? I like the way "Da Funk" (and "Funk Ad") sound like some sort of cousin to the Midnight Express theme. And I especially love the techno-meets-thriller score music on the Irreversible soundtrack. Most of Daft Punk's other stuff is okay, but it's lighter and not what I'm looking for. Basically any electronica/techno that has a horror/thriller score type sound to it.

Anything like that out there?

The Prodigy has some darker stuff. Anything off of the "Fat of the Land", most of it is pretty dark thrashing electronica. Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy" has some good stuff, too.

Might want to give Massive Attack's Mezzanine album a try.

Most of Amon Tobin's stuff has a darker feel. Check out "Permutation" or "Supermodified." I always wanted to put the song Four Ton Mantis off of the latter in a horror movie.

I think you would like Venetian Snares and Merzbow.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to have to check them all out. I've also seen the term "electro" used for this. Plus there's different "electros" - electro clash, dark electro, electrofunk, electropop. Don't really know what is what, though.

I'm referring more to its sound vs. their other tracks like "Around the World" or "One More Time", which sound poppier. When I hear "Da Funk", I think of cool 70s synth scores like Midnight Express or Assault on Precinct 13.

Besides Amon Tobin and Massive which are great suggestions, check out Tricky (some dubby dark stuff, similar to Massive) and Portishead, which is also that Bristol-dub style.

Also, Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express is pretty damn creepy. Crazy Germans .

I think the sound you're looking for is called in many cases just "dub" or "dub techno".
