Looking for EBM Suggestions

I really like VNV Nation. I wonder if there are any other EBM music I should check out.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's EBM music?

SFranke 07-17-04 09:33 PM

Electronic Body Music. Front 242 is the original EBM band, but I'm not really a fan of the current artists belonging to this genre.

Wow, I haven't heard that term in so long. I kind of gave up on the music after I left college. I have a cd somewhere around here that was actually called Electronic Body Music, had tons of different great bands, but of course, I've misplaced it now.
As for current bands...well, isn't KMFDM still around....wait, it's now MDFMK right?
If not them........, you know, i have no clue..man I'm getting old and out of touch.

I don't know if I've ever actually listened to Front 242, but I thought that they were usually labelled as "industrial." From that and the mention of KMFDM in this thread, would "EBM" be a sub-genre of "industrial?"

That's one thing that I find funny about the (for lack of a better term) "electronic" scene: it seems that every week another sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-genre is formed. I let my subscriptions to Urb and Mixer lapse a long time ago, so I'm really behind. :)

Apoptygma Berzerk, And One, Assemblege 23, Covenant, Funker Vogt, Haujobb & Wumpscut are the other big ones from that scene. Most of the great EBM bands are on/distributed by this label (Metropolis Records) : http://www.metropolis-records.com/

Thanks darqleo. I'll check them out.

front line assembly, bigod 20, cyberaktif, electric hellfire club, nitzer ebb, haujobb, wumpscut, funker vogt. I probably spelled a few of those wrong.

Technically, aren't VNV and apoptygma more of the industrial synth genre?

Here's a good page that defines everything pretty well... (except I don't know if I would consider Skinny Puppy "industrial rock"... heh)
