wedding music help

Hi all!
I am getting married in Sept. and am creating the cd's for the wedding/reception that a friend is going to play. I am having trouble figuring out what to play during the ceremony...especially during the prelude. Can anyone help with ideas? thanks!

I was in my best friends' wedding last month. Their reception was chock full of standards (Sinatra-esque stuff) - very classy. Of course, they had a band playing them, but a DJ playing this type of music would be good, too. It'd sure beat "The Chicken Dance," "The Electric Slide" and "Strokin'." The couple made a CD for each guest. I can give you the tracklisting, if you want.

I'll tell you what not to play. At another friend's wedding, the bridal party entered the reception to "Chariots of Fire" and the bride and groom came in to..."Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited (complete with the "Let's get ready to rummmmmmmmmmble" soundbite). Man, was that cheesy.

As for the prelude, Pachelbel's Canon is popular, but kinda played out. I've always thought that Bach's Air on the G String would work nicely. It's familiar, but not too overplayed. (It's also one of my favorite pieces)

Thanks! I am planning to play some Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Buble' (he is more recent big band singer) and some other hand picked songs from the Beatles, Elvis to more recent people.
I also love Bach's Air on the G sting...I may just use that.

Thanks!

You're welcome. Hope your wedding goes well.

I found this page at Amazon that has a fewclassical wedding music MP3s. I think my sister had Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" playing during the prelude at her wedding (it's a pretty popular choice).

The Star Wars geek in me always wanted to get married to the Imperial March.

. . . . of course being a Star Wars geek precludes me from ever actually MEETING a girl, so the whole idea is academic, I guess.

I've played at tons of weddings, and here are some popular choices for the ceremony.

Air (from Water Music Suite) -Handel
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring -Bach
Sleepers, Wake - Bach
Canon in D - Pachelbel
Air - Mozart
Air on a G String - Bach
Trumpet Tune - Clarke
Ave Maria - Bach

My first reaction is to play whatever you want to play. Here are the songs we specifically wanted played at our wedding. You sound like you want a more traditional list of songs though.

Wedding Entrance "Plainsong" - The Cure
Exit Song "Halo" - The Cure

Walking into the reception - "Theme from The Addams Family"
(Our wedding was on Halloween)

First Dance "Love Theme from The Godfather"

Other songs played
"Jaan Pehechaan Ho" - Ghost World Soundtrack
"Canción Del Mariachi (Morena De Mi Corazón)" - Los Lobos w/Antonio Banderas

Then the DJ just played various disco and tejano songs. My wife and I are pretty crazy though.
