anyone like BLACKALICIOUS?

im listening to BLAZING ARROW right now and my mind is literally melting.

holy crap...

Blazing Arrow is a great album. If you like that then check out Gift of Gab's new solo album 4th Dimensional Rockets Going Up . It has a very similar chilled hip-hop sound to his Blackalicious work, especially on Blazing Arrow.

so im new to them. did they split up or something or just doing solo stuff for a bit

i really do like blackalicious' songs... some of the best hip hop i've ever heard. but, i do get sick of the interludes, and ranting. especially on NIA.

msdmoney 05-24-04 01:29 AM

I liked nia more than blazing arrow, but blackalicious is great. Do you listen to much other hip hop besides blackalicious?

"Alphabet Arobics" is one of the most amazing tracks I've ever heard. Everybody I've played it to was shocked.

I missed a great show in April with Blackalicious and D.J. Shadow. I was out of state. :(

very little excluding the roots, but this funky, strange hip hop is something im very interested in.

Hell yes, I don't know if what you meant was the Quannum Tour, but I caught that one @ Irving plaza, and they all rocked the house, esp Lyrics Born, he totally dominated the mic and got everybody amped. Of course The gift of gab also did his thing up there, was definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen, + DJ Shadow with a dvd turntable was crazy.

You should also check out Chemical Calisthenics.

Supposedly they're working on a new album, but I also heard they were on the outs. It better be the former, because "Rocketships" is boring without Xcel.

I love blazing arrow! The first time I heard them was when I saw them play a free show in Indy (at IUPUI campus) last year. Hardly anyone was there. Apparently though, Gift of Gab was sick or having surgery or something and some white dude filled his spot. And this dude was amazing too. So, I totally loved them just from hearing them with a different lead, then I bought Blazing Arrow and was blown away. Great stuff.

Well let me suggest a few other groups/artists you might like then

Mos Def - "Ms. Fat Booty", "Definition", "Travelin Man"
J-Live - "Them That's Not", "Epilogue", "The 4th-3rd"
Cunninlynguists - "Seasons", "SouthernUnderground"

Sorry to go off topic.

Don't forget their first release MELODICA.
I think you can still find the non US versions with the instrumentals on them.

Eeyore 05-31-04 08:17 AM

Blazing Arrow and Nia are both great albums.

An aside: I saw two kids in a record store once debating whether to buy Blazing Arrow or some nondescript hardcore rap album. The decision came down to which was tougher--guns (all over the cover of the hardcore album) or bows and arrows (on Blazing Arrow). They bought the cheesy gangsta rap album. We live in a sad world.
