Re: Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys out May 31, 2011
Have listened to it a few times now, and enjoy it quite a bit. Starts out a little flat, but really picks up by the 4th or 5th song. Not as good as Transatlanticism, but it's gonna hard for the boys to surpass that one.

Re: Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys out May 31, 2011
This is the first album I have bought by them, generally like harder rock. After 1 listen, I think it is a good record. I agree with the above poster that it starts off slow, but the last song on side 2 to the end is really strong (bought it on vinyl).

Re: Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys out May 31, 2011
If you liked this album, I highly recommend checking out Transatlanticism. I've got all of their albums and enjoy pretty much everything they've done, but that's easily the high point of Death Cab For Cutie.

Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi - 3/31/15
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/as/...e-kintsugi.jpg
Longtime Death Cab for Cutie member/producer Chris Walla recently left the band, but Death Cab are moving forward, and have now announced details for their upcoming eighth album. It's called Kintsugi ("the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum, highlighting cracks rather than hiding them"), and will be out on March 31 via Atlantic. As noted previously, though Walla does contribute to the album, it was recorded with Rich Costey (Interpol, Mew, Jane's Addiction), and marks their first time working with an outside producer. No music has been revealed from it yet, but that's the album artwork above and you can check out the tracklist below... --- Kintsugi Tracklist: 1. NO ROOM IN FRAME 2. BLACK SUN 3. THE GHOSTS OF BEVERLY DRIVE 4. LITTLE WANDERER 5. YOU'VE HAUNTED ME ALL MY LIFE 6. HOLD NO GUNS 7. EVERYTHING'S A CEILING 8. GOOD HELP (IS SO HARD TO FIND) 9. EL DORADO 10. INGENUE 11. BINARY SEA |
Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi - 3/31/15
I'm glad they are working with a new producer. The direction of the last two albums was really aimless and way too ballad heavy for my tastes. Both of them seemed to meander for 45 minutes or so. But I can see from those song titles that Ben's melancholy is back in full effect.

I love "Narrow Stairs" and "Codes and Keys", both great albums. Curious to see how different they sound without Walla.

I love Narrow Stairs but found I got tired/annoyed with Codes and Keys after a couple of weeks, hope this one delivers. Looking forward to the first single.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi - 3/31/15
I got the LP in the mail today, after one listen I am enjoying it. My musical tastes usually skew to harder rock. Iron Maiden is my favorite band, but I like these guys and I think this is another good album from them.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi - 3/31/15
I'm the opposite. I think it's their weakest effort yet. Aside from "No Room In Frame" there isn't a single memorable thing on there. And Ben's everlasting melon collie has gotten incredibly stale at this point.

Dickinson got throat cancer, he is out for a while. They said the new album is pretty much done, but I doubt they will release it until he is able to sing again and they can tour to support the record. It is starting to look like that will be later in the year as a best case. Probably next year.

Re: The "Death Cab For Cutie" Thread
Death Cab For Cutie‘s ninth album Thank You For Today comes out this Friday (8/17) via Atlantic Records, and the whole thing is streaming now. It’s their first album without any involvement from founding member Chris Walla, and their first with current touring members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, etc) and Zac Rae (Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey, My Brightest Diamond, etc). Like its 2015 predecessor Kintsugi, it was produced by Rich Costey. https://www.npr.org/2018/08/13/63605...-you-for-today 1. I Dreamt We Spoke Again 2. Summer Years 3. Gold Rush 4. Your Hurricane 5. When We Drive 6. Autumn Love 7. Northern Lights 8. You Moved Away 9. Near/Far 10. 60 & Punk <iframe width="630" height="354" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XTPZWG5eLf8" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="630" height="354" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1aZUgUii4Sk" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="630" height="354" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/h-Hnl8inGPo" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I really love "Gold Rush"
never have been a big DCFC fan hope the rest of the record is good |
Re: The "Death Cab For Cutie" Thread
The album is out. It is OK I suppose.
Here is a really great interview with Ben Gibbard. Ben Gibbard Ranks Death Cab for Cutie's Eight Albums Ahead of the release of the band's new album, 'Thank You for Today,' the indie rock icon looks back on a 20-year career of appearances on 'The O.C.,' Grammy nominations, and dodging that whole emo thing. https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/articl...ie-ben-gibbard |

Re: The "Death Cab For Cutie" Thread
Didn't know about this, I'll have to give it a listen. Death Cab keeps surprising me. I was skeptical that "Kintsugi" would be good without Chris Walla, but I ended up liking it quite a bit.

Re: The "Death Cab For Cutie" Thread
I got into their music over the past couple of years. Kintsugi was the one that got me listening and I really like that album. This one not so much. I don't think it's bad, but not their best stuff by far.
