Most "average" rock bands
So, my roommate and I were talking about "average" rock bands - groups that are moderately famous and have solid songs and staying power, yet they don't really seem to inspire either love or hate in the fan base. My best example were The Foo Fighters. His was Live. What other bands could be suitable elevator music for the rock fan?

mathbox 20
third eye blind nickelback |
Goo Goo Dolls
|
collective soul
|
3 Doors Down
Train Counting Crows Staind |
I second third eye blind, also Tonic and Maroon 5.

Originally posted by cheapskate Counting Crows anyway, agree with third eye blind and live---two bands that I have all of their stuff. |
Fuel
Puddle of Mudd |
I have to agree about Counting Crows being a superior band. Also, in my circle, there is much derision for Matchbox 20, Puddle of Mudd, and Nickelback. I think Fuel fits the bill perfectly though.

Oh, and I personally can't stand Maroon 5. I saw them open for Guster last year. I don't understand why they got blown up. They're like Jamiroquai five years later. Whatever. Anyway, they're out. :-)

Wow, there are a lot of bands listed here that inspire complete hate from my end. Live is a perfect example of a horrible, horrible band. But, maybe it is true that most people simply feel indifference toward them.
I think Foo Fighters is a great example of this. |

First thing I thought of was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Consistantly listenable (with the exception of "Don't Come Around Here No More") but never groundbreaking or incredible.

Hootie and the Blowfish

We can just replace "average" with "frat rock" and that will pretty much cover them all.
