Early Grammy Predictions

Okay so far we have had some really good stuff come out but a lot of crap. Who do you think has early chances to be nominated at the 2005 show? Here are some of my personal picks.

Prince's "Musicology", Jay-Z's "Black Album" Norah Jones' "Feels Like Home" seem like front runners for Album Of The Year so far.

I would like to see the most wildly imaginative and best produced pop song of 2004, Britney Spears' "Toxic", to get some recognition this year. I would like to see it get a song of the year or record of the year nomination. Also in those catergories I would like to see Key's get recognition for "If I Aint Got You" and "Sunrise" from Norah seems like it could get a nod here along with "This Love" by Maroon 5.

In the best female RnB vocal performance i would nominate "If I Aint Got You" by Alicia Keys, "I Want You" by Janet Jackson and Me Myself and I by Beyonce

Best New Artist isnt one i'm very sure of just yet but a frontrunner so far seems like Joss Stone

Kanye West should be able to rap up (not pun intended) some rap nominations for "All Falls Down" and "College Dropout".

Maybe William Hung will get a nomination for Best Comedy Album.

Right on about "Toxic." That is a ridiculously good song. I think Kanye West might be nominated for Best New Artist, as well as Joss Stone and Nellie McKay (not so sure on Nellie). In light of last year's Fountains of Wayne BNA nomination, it wouldn't be surprising if the refraction of history found The Cure in this category.

-edit-

Or maybe Emma Bunton will also find herself in BNA, assuming her album gets a stateside release and the panel decides to look past her affiliation with The Spice Girls.

And I don't know about the carry-over standard, but The Black Album was released in 2003 so I don't know that this would be nominated. It would be a nice kiss-off, though.

actually, they could nominate the black album if they wanted to. clocks by coldplay got nominated even though the album came out the year before. and lets not even talk about U2 for gettign nominated 3 years in a row for the same material.

i hope Between the Dim and the Dark by Jump gets nominated for album of the year.

Yeah, I think the U2 you're referring to is material from "All That You Can't Leave Behind." The first single was released just before the cutoff date (around October IIRC) and got nominated, but the album wasn't eligible because it came out a little later. The album was nominated the following year then, and I guess a single or two was released after the cutoff date for that year (more than a year after the album was released).

When did the Black Album come out?

fallow 04-26-04 06:49 PM

Black Album's release = Nov. 14

 To Kanye West. I'm a big fan of his album, and after seeing "Diary of Kanye West" on MTV yesterday i'm a bigger fan. I'd love to see a couple of nominations go his way.

I think it's just a *little bit too early to be making predictions*

I'll be back in 6 months

best albums i've bought this year:

THE TRILLS

THE DECEMBERISTS

KANYE WEST

franz ferdinand will be nominated for best new artist im sure, though i personally think they are a bit over rated.

hopefully MORRISEY's new shit will be great. i went to his recent concert and the new stuff sounded really solid.

fallow 04-26-04 10:55 PM

I doubt Franz Ferdinand will get recommended. They aren't any more hyped than The Rapture, Interpol, or The Strokes -especially not the latter- and I don't think any of those 3 were nominated.

-edit-

That's not to say that they aren't overly hyped, though.

Judging from past nominations, I would not be surprised if he was nominated for best new artist.

Agree. I don't know a soul who doesn't like this song. And we all hate Britney.
