New Todd Rundgren Studio Album Out NOW!!!

For those that are interested.....

Available everywhere:

Todd Rundgren's first full length studio album (of new material) release in 10 years!

Cd is titled "Liars", and is an excellent fusion of pop/rock/techno with a large dose of reality!

'All of these songs are about a paucity of truth. At first they may seem to be about other things, but that is just a reflection of how much dishonesty we have accepted in our daily lives. We are raised from birth to believe things that cannot be proven or that are plainly not true. People will often brag of their honesty, when there is so much they have simply chosen to ignore or leave unexamined. The fact is, we are terrified of the truth,'

BUMP...

Thanks for pointing out that this was released. (I didn't even realize he had a new CD coming out. When I browse the CD racks I see CDs which contain past songs which have been "reconfigured" into different musical interpretations. And they didn't look particularily interesting.)

So, I was happy to see that Todd had recorded a new batch of songs and so I rushed out and picked it up last week and have been listening to the first seven songs. Some of the songs are frustrating to listen to because the vocals are too "overlayered" for my tastes. I would have preferred if he had kept it simple instead of packing each song with a dense mix of vocals, instruments, overdubs, etc. The songs I REALLY like are "Soul Brother" and "Stood Up"; the rest leave me kind of cold. (I'll also have to see how the rest of the CD pans out.)

I've been a Todd fan since his days in Nazz and have followed his career from Upper Darby--Philadelphia through his time with Utopia onto some of his experimental stuff. I really like his "pop" sense and wish he would investigate that more in his music instead of playing around with "studio tricks."

Glad you gave it a listen. I must admit, the first couple of listens left a bit to be desired. But I have to say the only tracks that leave me "cold" now are "Happy Anniversary", and Flaw (which is beginning to grow on me). I just saw him on his new tour in Chicago and was blown away! He's playing with a 4-member band, a new method for delivering sound, and a first time ever stage lighting setup (all L.E.D's!). After seeing the show, and hearing the music played live...it brought a brand new perspective for me for all the tracks. I now feel that "truth" and "Liar" are two of the best songs that he has written. If you get the chance I can't recommend that you see the show enough. You won't be disapointed!

Also, Todd will be appearing on David Letterman later this month (hopefully with his band - the Liars - and stage setup).

It looks like 4/28 for the Letterman appearance.

Thanks for the info, fellows. I've seen Todd live a number of times and I've always enjoyed his live shows. I rented the DVD of the show he did in San Francisco and it was really good. Nice, tight set with a small band and featuring some older songs I wouldn't expect him to cover.

To be fair to his new CD, I've been listening to a lot of other stuff and just haven't had time to sit and give it a straight run through. Hopefully this weekend. I was a mega Todd fan in the early 70s when he kept going in his own direction while a lot of the super groups got dull and boring.

It was cool to see him on "Midnight Special" or "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" because he was still a cult-status star.
